Taking The American Congress

Countercurrents.orgYes, I am old enough to remember the Republican Party dirty tricksters scaring non Catholic Americans into believing a Catholic President Kennedy would be taking orders from the Pope. It drove Kennedy to make the following statement in 1960 to
Southern Baptist Church leaders.
"I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish -- where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source -- where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials"
-- US Senator Joe Lieberman pays no heed to that statement. In a 2004 press release he underscored the strong solidarity between the United States and Israel in these remarks. "This shared faith in progress and common commitment to the values of freedom and equality are the basis of the solidarity between Israel and the United States. And both nations are dedicated by their founding documents to secure those values not just for their people, but for all peoples. We, the people—of the United States and Israel—are committed to forming a more perfect union, between our two nations and with all nations who share the dream of democracy," Lieberman said.
The problem is that calling Israel a democracy might be acceptable if it were not an exclusively Jewish state, and if not only Jews were given first class citizenship rights.
It is astounding how the Jewish Lobby and Congress of the United States have ignored the message of Kennedy that we Jews all applauded.
On its web page AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) says that part of its agenda is to influence American students.
"The challenges for today's students are enormous -- fewer
Jewish youth than ever identify with Israel, average student turnout in recent elections is only 25 percent and anti-Israel activity on campus is rising. AIPAC trains and educates pro-Israel students across America and develops their leadership skills so that they become effective citizen lobbyists today and pro-Israel leaders tomorrow."
The unbridled power of AIPAC is fueled by the fear and cowardice of our leaders who do not have the courage of Kennedy.
"The work that AIPAC does is a vital part of our democratic process. You speak out boldly, and that's good for America and Israel. You make sure that politicians hear what voters have to say not only on election day but on every day of the year."

-Former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel SharonA tax-exempt organization that lobbies Congress on behalf of Israel, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee has been under investigation by the FBI for allegedly receiving classified information from a Pentagon official and using this information on behalf of the government of Israel.
AIPAC gives large amounts of money through many satellite groups to politicians it favors and to those running against politicians it does not favor.
In that way they can actually reshape the congress of the United States and that is why so many American politicians are in their grip.
It is a nightmare come true. The Pope did not take over the American Government, but AIPAC did.
