More Reasons Not To Vote For Obama

By David Truskoff

22 October, 2008
Countercurrents.org

I was shocked by the Obama statement that he would welcome Warren Buffet, the wizard of Wall Street, to be his Secretary of the Treasury. In answer I wrote, "Buffet began trading stocks at age eleven. His father was a broker and congressmen. Warren is not a carpenter that builds the houses we live in. He is not a farmer that grows the food we eat. He is not a doctor that cures our ills. He is the "vampire-like, (who) lives only by sucking living labor, and lives the more, the more labor he sucks." Can anyone in their right mind believe that he who is perhaps the captain of the sinking ship, the one who helped run us aground, be the one to save us?"

Now Obama has gone even further in welcoming Colin Powell into his administration if he is elected. It tells us who is pulling his strings. Powell didn't give Obama his endorsement without getting a promise of something in return.

Colin Powell? The liar who lied to the members of the United Nations and led us into this fiasco in Iraq and now Obama may appoint him to be the ambassador to the UN. Perhaps he can get his old job back as Secretary Of State.

Powell was supposed to be the insider, astute military man, yet he claims he was misled by the likes of Mr.Chalabi. It was a turning point that led to the horrible war. Mr. Ahmed Chalabi, was a cheerleader for the war. He was charged with bankrupting Bank Petra. A bank that he founded. He was convicted for bank fraud by a Jordanian military court in 1992. He supplied false information about the weapons of mass destruction that Powell claims he believed. Who could believe a shady character like Chalabi?

Who is Colin Powell and why do I think he is just as dangerous as Bush? He is a well-educated man with little character who not only lies to others, but lies to himself. He said, "So our record of living our values and letting our values be an inspiration to others I think is clear. And I don't think I have anything to be ashamed of or apologize for with respect to what America has done for the world. We have gone forth from our shores repeatedly over the last hundred years and we've done this as recently as the last year in Afghanistan and put wonderful young men and women at risk, many of whom have lost their lives, and we have asked for nothing except enough ground to bury them in, and otherwise we have returned home to seek our own, you know, to seek our own lives in peace, to live our own lives in peace. But there comes a time when soft power or talking with evil will not work where, unfortunately, hard power is the only thing that works."

Does this sound like an incredibly naive person or a dangerous General who wants us to believe that he has never heard of Oil? Does he also want us to believe that he never heard of the exploitation by Americans of workers in countries that our "Hard Power" has allowed us to dominate? Does he really think that we have troops stationed around the world for no reasons other than altruistic ones? Can someone that has been a Washington hanger on really be that naive?

One cannot blame the son for the sins of the father, but the Powell family has made its negative mark on America. Besides helping to lead us into a non-winnable war and causing the deaths of thousands of Americans and countless numbers of Iraqis, Colin's son Michael Powell the ex chairman of the FCC, was responsible for the disastrous crumbling of the FCC. He took the Reagan de-regulation a step further. He believed that regulations often stood in the way of progress. Even hard core Wall Street professionals are willing to admit that De-regulation has brought us to the brink of another depression.

In the Washington Post November 21, 2004 Tom Shales described Michael Powell this way: " Arrogant is the adjective used most often in any discussion of Powell and the way he pushes his personal agenda, an extension of the fanatical deregulation that gathered steam under Ronald Reagan's FCC chairman, Mark Fowler. Basically the theology is this: Commercial interests come first, second and third among priorities, and "the public interest, convenience and necessity," which the FCC is mandated to uphold, straggles in a distant fourth.

He seems never to have met a media merger he didn't like, which will result in the virtual death of local television and radio in America as station after station is sucked up into one enormous unfeeling conglomerate or another. Powell scorns the pleas of public-minded groups that try to meet with him, critics say, but will rush off eagerly to any luncheon, dinner or cocktail party sponsored by big corporate powers."

Well, hasn't the Powell family done enough to America? Does this not tell young voters and others that they will be so disappointed by an Obama administration? Yes, we always come to the question, so what do we do? I don't know about you, but I am going to vote for Nader. At least he is saying what has to be said.
I will not be a part of the further destruction of my country.
