Huge Cost Of 60 Years Of
Apartheid Israel, War
And Palestinian Genocide

This week the State of Israel celebrates the 60th anniversary of its Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) as a race-based state on 14th May 1948. This was the culmination of half a century of activism since the First Zionist Conference in Basle in 1897, chaired by Theodor Herzl, launched a program of racist colonization of Palestine (see: ) .

The Zionist agenda was clearly racist (involving the colonization of the country of another people) but consistent with the general European racism of the time that was involved in massive colonization and genocide in almost all non-European parts of the world (Iran, Japan and Thailand being notable, fortunate exceptions).

Theodor Herzl was explicit in stating the racist agenda of Zionism in this more general context 102 years ago (1896) in Der Judenstaat (see Chapter 2, The Jewish State, sub-heading “Palestine or Argentine?”:
) as quoted below.

QUOTE: “Shall we choose Palestine or Argentine? We shall take what is given us, and what is selected by Jewish public opinion. The Society will determine both these points.

Argentine is one of the most fertile countries in the world, extends over a vast area, has a sparse population and a mild climate. The Argentine Republic would derive considerable profit from the cession of a portion of its territory to us. The present infiltration of Jews has certainly produced some discontent, and it would be necessary to enlighten the Republic on the intrinsic difference of our new movement.

Palestine is our ever-memorable historic home. The very name of Palestine would attract our people with a force of marvellous potency. If His Majesty the Sultan were to give us Palestine, we could in return undertake to regulate the whole finances of Turkey. We should there form a portion of a rampart of Europe against Asia, an outpost of civilization as opposed to barbarism. We should as a neutral State remain in contact with all Europe, which would have to guarantee our existence. The sanctuaries of Christendom would be safeguarded by assigning to them an extra-territorial status such as is well-known to the law of nations. We should form a guard of honour about these sanctuaries, answering for the fulfilment of this duty with our existence. This guard of honour would be the great symbol of the solution of the Jewish question after eighteen centuries of Jewish suffering.

"For Europe we shall constitute there [in Palestine] a sector of the wall against Asia, we shall serve as the vanguard of culture against barbarism." END QUOTE.

Argentina had by 1896 largely completed the 19th Century Indian Genocide involving the shocking mass murder of Indigenous Indians to make way for British-funded cattle ranches. In his outstanding analysis of European colonial racism from the Enlightenment to the Jewish Holocaust entitled “Exterminate All the Brutes”, Sven Lindqvist describes the following eye-witness account from Charles Darwin: “This is a dark picture, but how much more shocking is the undeniable fact that all the women who appear above twenty years old are massacred in cold blood! When I exclaimed that this appeared rather inhuman, he answered “Why what can be done? They breed so!””[Charles Darwin recounting a Spanish commander’s view of genocide in Argentina].

Sven Lindqvist further states: “When Darwin published The Descent of Man in 1871, the hunting down of Indians was still going on in Argentina, financed by a bond loan. When the land was cleared of Indians, it was shared among the bondholders, each bond giving a right to twenty-five hundred hectares.” (see “South America, US hegemony and Excess Mortality”:

The Argentinian Indian Genocide (which overflowed into the genocide of the Indigenous Indians of neighbouring Paraguay and Uruguay) was one of a number of shocking “lebensraum” (“living room”) genocides perpetrated by European colonialists in the 19th and 20th centuries in North and South America, Africa, Asia, Australasia and the Pacific (for details see: “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950”, G.M. Polya, Melbourne, 2007: and and Chalk, F. and Jonassohn, K. (1990), The History and Sociology of Genocide. Analyses and Case Studies (Yale University Press, New Haven & London)).

Lucky for the Argentinians - and indeed many other candidate territories for a Zionist colony (see Gilbert, M. (1969) (with Banks, A., cartographer), Jewish History Atlas (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, London)) - that the racist British Government via the Balfour Declaration in 1917 (see: ) decided to give away to the racist Zionists what was not theirs to give away, namely Palestine:
"Dear Lord Rothschild, I have much pleasure in conveying to you, on behalf of His Majesty's Government, the following declaration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations which has been submitted to, and approved by, the Cabinet: “His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.” I should be grateful if you would bring this declaration to the knowledge of the Zionist Federation.”

The rest is history. There were 25,000 Jews and 0.5 million Indigenous Palestinians in Palestine in 1880; Jews represented one third of the population by 1948; and even today Indigenous Palestinians represent about 50% of the population of the Holy Land which is composed of 5.5 million Jewish Israelis, 1.5 million Indigenous Palestinian Israeli (second class citizens under race-based Apartheid laws) and 4 million Occupied Palestinians (imprisoned in a dwindling West Bank and Gaza Strip that are in effect Israeli-run concentration camps). There are millions more Palestinians outside the Holy Land forbidden to return to their Homeland (there are about 11 million Palestinians worldwide of whom 4.3 million are registered as refugees with the UNHCR: and ).

The evil, anti-Asian racism of Theodor Herzl in 1896: “We should there [Palestine] form a portion of a rampart of Europe against Asia, an outpost of civilization as opposed to barbarism” was echoed by comments of the Israeli Ambassador to pro-Zionist racist White Australia in 2006 : "Israel and Australia are like sisters in Asia. We are in Asia without the characteristics of Asians. We don't have yellow skin and slanted eyes. Asia is basically the yellow race. Australia and Israel are not - we are basically the white race. We are on the western side of Asia and they are on the southeastern side. Israel has not fully acknowledged the value of working together with Australia in Asia. It's a way for us to cooperate with and enhance our position in the countries neighboring Australia." (see top Israeli newspaper Haaretz: ).

After a century of this racist, colonialist obscenity it is timely on this 60th anniversary of Zionist Unilateral Declaration of Independence to assess what has been (1) the economic cost of Apartheid Israel and (2) the human cost of Apartheid Israel?

1. Economic cost of Apartheid Israel

The actual total economic cost to the US of its support for Israel has been estimated to be more than $1.6 trillion for the period 1973-2002 and $2.6 trillion for the period 1956-2002, from which one can estimate a total post-Independence cost to the US taxpayer of about $3 trillion (see “Huge cost of Israel but interim peace is possible” in MWC News: ; see also ). Thus writing in the Wall Street Journal in October 2002, editor Holman Jenkins opined: “By one count, Americans have spent nearly $1 trillion on this cause [Israel] since 1973 (and another $1.7 trillion in defense of Israel), an outlay impossible to explain in terms of fuel security. Likewise, the further costs we're courting on behalf of Iraq hugely outweigh the real value of that country's oil to us” (see:

To this huge bill for the US taxpayer one must add the $3 trillion accrual cost of the Iraq War as determined by 2001 Economics Nobel Laureate and former Chief Economist for the World Bank Professor Joseph Stiglitz (Columbia University) and his colleague Professor Linda Bilmes (Harvard University) (see ABC TV “Lateline”, “Award winning economist says America has bankrupted itself with the Iraq war”:
) . A Congressional Report places the accrual cost of the War on Terror (Iraq and Afghanistan) at $3.5 trillion through 2017: ).

The huge cost of Israel to the US has severely impacted on the relatively low level of aid to the Third World from the World's dominant superpower. Thus aid to Israel is a major component of US foreign aid and the US ranks last among the wealthy countries in terms of its foreign aid as a percentage of gross national income (0.16% in 2007) (see: ) . According to Dr. Zunes, Department of Politics at the University of San Francisco: “Total U.S. aid to Israel is approximately one-third of the American foreign-aid budget, even though Israel comprises just .001 percent of the world's population and already has one of the world's higher per capita incomes. Indeed, Israel's GNP is higher than the combined GNP of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, the West Bank and Gaza. With a per capita income of about $14,000, Israel ranks as the sixteenth wealthiest country in the world; Israelis enjoy a higher per capita income than oil-rich Saudi Arabia and are only slightly less well-off than most Western European countries” (see: ).

This huge distortion of the US economy due to support for the racist Zionist colonization of the Middle East has impoverished America and the World – indeed, according to Professor Joseph Stiglitz, just the Iraq War component alone has “bankrupted America” with horrendous national and global consequences for decades to come (see: ) . The Israel- and Zionist-promoted Bush War on Terror has killed about 9 million people in the Occupied Iraqi and Afghan Territories (so far), trashed America’s reputation as a civilized democracy and bankrupted America.

2. Human cost of Israel

The bottom-line human cost of violent social or global policies is excess death (avoidable death, deaths that did not have to happen). Such excess deaths can be violent (from shooting or bombing) or non-violent (from deprivation and deprivation-exacerbated disease) – but whatever the cause the end result is the same and the culpability the same (see: “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950”, G.M. Polya, Melbourne, 2007: and ) . Thus of the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis it is estimated that 1 in 6 died from deprivation rather than from outright violence (see: Gilbert, M. (1969) (with Banks, A., cartographer), Jewish History Atlas (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, London) and Gilbert, M. (1982), Atlas of the Holocaust (Michael Joseph, London)).

From UN Population Division data, the post-invasion (post-1967) excess deaths in the Occupied Palestinian Territories total 0.3 million and the post-invasion under-5 year old infant deaths total 0.2 million.

For impoverished Third World countries the excess deaths are about 1.4 times the under-5 infant deaths and the current 3,000 under-5 infant deaths annually in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (as reported by UNICEF) translate as 4,200 excess deaths annually (by way of comparison, on the conservative standard used in this analysis there are effectively zero excess deaths in Israel or in other European countries in Western Europe, North America and Australasia).

It is harder to estimate the number of violent deaths. Data from the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicate about 2,600 Jewish Israeli violent deaths from Palestinians since 1949 as compared Jewish Israeli B’Tselem data indicating that 5,037 Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers or civilians in the period 29 September 2000 to 31 January 2008 (see:
and ) .

The current violent and non-violent “annual excess death rate” of Occupied Palestinians (2006 population 3.9 million; current population about 4 million) is accordingly about 5,000 excess deaths/4 million = 0.13% as compared to 0% for Israel, Western Europe, Australasia and North America (see ).

This is a truly shocking statistic and indicative of Israeli war crimes in violation of Articles 55 and 56 the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. Without in any way minimizing this ongoing Zionist atrocity, one notes that the “annual excess death rate” of Indigenous Australians (Aborigines, Aboriginals) is 9,000 out of 0.5 million or 1.8% due to the ongoing, remorseless Aboriginal Genocide policies of pro-Zionist, Bush-ite, politically correct racist (PC racist) White Australia (see: http://climateemergency.blogspot.
and ) .

However there is a further dimension to the human cost of Israel, namely the effect on excess death in its neighbours due to its war and occupation policies. Using UN Population Division data one can estimate that the 1950-2005 excess deaths in all countries partly occupied by the State of Israel in the last 60 years totalled 24 million. The breakdown (1950-2005 excess deaths/2005 population) for the State of Israel and its violated neighbours is as follows: Israel [0.095m/6.685m =1.4%] - Egypt [19.818m/74.878m = 26.5%], Jordan [0.630m/5.750m = 11.0%], Lebanon [0.535m/3.761m = 14.2%], Occupied Palestinian Territories [0.677m/3.815m = 17.7%], Syria [2.198m/18.650m = 11.8%], total = 23.858m/106.854 = 22.3% (see: “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950” (G.M. Polya, Melbourne, 2007: ).

It gets worse if one considers the 1950-2005 “excess deaths” and “under-5 infant deaths” in all countries actually militarily attacked by Israel (43 million and 29 million, respectively) as compared to 24 million and 17 million, respectively, for countries occupied by Israel at some point.

There is an even bigger picture of complicity in crimes against humanity. Thus Apartheid Israel (together with the US and UK) was a staunch supporter of anti-Asian, anti-African, neo-Nazi Apartheid South Africa (and indeed assisted Apartheid South Africa in acquiring nuclear weapons to oppress Southern Africa) (see Blum, W. (2006), Rogue State, A guide to the world’s only superpower (Zed Books, London)); Israel has been involved in state and non-state terrorism around the World; Israel has been involved in the Western attacks on Iraq (it bombed an Iraqi nuclear plant, and allegedly participated with the US and UK in bombing Iraq during the Sanctions War period (1990-2003); and Israel has strongly supported all anti-Arab, anti-Muslim US war policies. Excess deaths in post-1950 US Asian Wars total 25 million, the breakdown being 1 million (Korea), 13 million (Indo-China), 2 million (Iraq, 1990-2003), 2 million (Occupied Iraq) and 7 million (Occupied Afghanistan).

However it gets even worse still when we consider the impact of Apartheid Israel on the post-war Third World Holocaust that has killed over 1.3 billion people.

The racist, Apartheid State of Israel that obscenely claims “ownership” of the Jewish Holocaust has also so grossly distorted Western values and priorities that the First World has had a major complicity in a Third World Holocaust about 200 times greater than the Jewish Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Europe (6 million victims, 1 in 6 dying of deprivation: Gilbert, M. (1969) (with Banks, A., cartographer), Jewish History Atlas (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, London).

The horrendous, post-1950 Third World Holocaust of 1.2 billion excess deaths in the period 1950-2005 was utterly needless and due to a moral failure of the First World in charge of the flight deck of Spaceship Earth. However the real problems of the World have got catastrophically worse for the World in the last few years while the West has been obsessed with the dishonest, racist, murderous, Zionist-inspired War on Terror (indeed according to former president of Italy, law professor and intelligence intimate Francesco Cossiga the initiating 9/11 atrocity was actually committed by the US CIA and Israeli Mossad in the interests of US and Zionist hegemony: ).

The World is now facing a global food crisis that threatens the lives of billions in the Third World through Biofuel Famine and Biofuel Genocide and a Climate Emergency that, according to top UK climate scientist Professor James Lovelock FRS, if unaddressed will kill over 6 billion people in a horrendous Climate Genocide this century (see: and ).

America has been bankrupted by its support for Zionism and Islamophobic, Zionist-promoted Asian wars – it can no longer afford the continuing destruction of its wealth and reputation and perversion of its libertarian, humanitarian and democratic culture by the lying, racist, traitorous Zionist lobby in its midst. Indeed the World is now facing a Climate Emergency and Sustainability Emergency (see: ) and cannot afford this Zionist perversion of truth, human rights and International Law either.

The World must insist on immediate Holy Land peace with non-racism, equity, justice and reconciliation. Unfortunately the racist Zionists (RZs) and racist Bush-ites and neo-Bush-ites are committed to racism and “might-is-right” violence. Sanctions and Boycotts were successful against Apartheid Israel-supported neo-Nazi Apartheid South Africa- comprehensive international and national Sanctions and Boycotts should be urgently applied against the State of Israel and against all persons, corporations and countries complicit with the ongoing, 60-year obscenity of racist, genocidal, ethnocratic Apartheid Israel.
