Horrendous Carnage In Nobel Peace Laureate Obama’s Afghan War

By Dr Gideon Polya

05 December, 2009
Countercurrents.org

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Barack Obama has just announced the dispatch of a further 30,000 US troops to Occupied Afghanistan. Obama’s full speech, in which he announced this travesty of Humanity on 2 December 2009, can be read here: http://www.uruknet.de/?s1=1&p=60674&s2=02 .

It is timely to re-examine and update the horrendous human cost of this war that is now being described as Obama’s War.

UNICEF (see: http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/afghanistan_statistics.html ) informs us that 338,000 under-5 year old Afghan infants die every year under Obama - 90% avoidably (i.e. 0.3 million avoidably) and due to war criminal Occupier refusal to supply life-sustaining food and medical supplies as demanded unequivocally of an Occupier "to the fullest extent of the means available to it" by Articles 55 and 56 of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (see: http://www1.umn.edu/humanrts/instree/y4gcpcp.htm ).

WHO (see: http://www.who.int/en/ ) tells us that the total annual per capita health expenditure permitted by the Occupier in Occupied Afghanistan is $29 as compared to $6,714 for the US.

It has been estimated that non-violent avoidable deaths (excess deaths, avoidable mortality, excess mortality, deaths that did not have to happen) in an impoverished Third World country is "under-5 deaths"/0.7 (see “Layperson's guide to counting Iraq deaths”: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/5872/26/ ) and for Occupied Afghanistan under Obama this is 338,000/0.7 = 483,000 i.e. about 0.5 million Occupied Afghans die avoidably each year under Obama.

As for violent deaths of Occupied Afghans in this endless, US-imposed war one has to turn to the Iraq War for comparative data. The ratio of violent deaths/non-violent avoidable deaths in Occupied Iraq is now about 1.3 million/1.0 million = 1.3 (see “The Forgotten Iraqi Genocide”: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/29682/42/ ) ; the non-violent avoidable deaths in Occupied Afghanistan total 3.2 million (UN Population Division data) ; and accordingly violent deaths in Occupied Afghanistan (2001-2009) are 3.2 million x 1.3 = 4.2 million.

However, according an Australian expert and adviser to the US military, David Kilcullen, the violence in Occupied Afghanistan is 4 times less than in the Iraq War in which case "only" 1 million Afghans have been killed violently as a result of the US, NATO and Apartheid Australia invasion.:

Key quotes from the ABC 7.30 Report interview with David Kilcullen (see: http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2009/s2761408.htm ) : “KERRY O’BRIEN (Australian ABC 7.30 Report) : Just how big is the task ahead? If you drew a line now between what has been and what is ahead, how big is that task? DAVID KILCULLEN: I think that it isn't necessarily as big as some people think. I mean, the war in Afghanistan is still four times smaller and less violent than the war in Iraq is even today. There is still much smaller number of people killed, there's a substantially smaller population that's affected, you know, it's just not as bad as all that.”

Compare this conservative estimate of 4 million violent and non-violent deaths in Occupied Afghanistan with the 3,000 murdered on 9/11.

We do not know who did 9-11 but top scientific evidence points directly to US explosive demolition of the WTC buildings (most likely with Israeli involvement) (see “Is US responsible for 9-11 atrocity? Scientists find nano-thermite in WTC dust”: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/29921/42/ ).

Notwithstanding Obama’s attribution of the 9-11 atrocity to Al Qaeda (a terrorist organization backed by the US for a dozen years), even the official Bush Version of 9-11 says that NO Afghans were involved.

The “official Bush version” of 9-11 has never been tested in a court of law i.e. the Al Qaeda and Osama participation, that Obama used as a justification for more war in his 2 December 2009 Afghan War Speech, remains an “allegation”.

Indeed Osama is prominent on the FBI Most Wanted List where he is wanted for involvement in circa 200 deaths in East Africa attacks but is evidently NOT wanted for 9-11 (see “FBI Most Wanted List”: http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/fugitives/laden.htm ).

Further, Obama LIED in his speech in asserting that the Afghan Government would not surrender Osama - it actually offered to send Osama to a Third Country for transparent trial.

By 20 January 2010, the first anniversary of his inauguration as President of the US, Obama will have been complicit in the non-violent avoidable deaths of 0.3 million under-5 year old Afghan infants (0.9 x 338,000 = 304,000); the non-violent avoidable deaths of 0.5 million Occupied Afghans in total; the violent deaths of 0.16 million Afghans (based on the David Kilcullen assertion about violent deaths); generation of a further 2.5 million Pashtun refugees from NW Pakistan (in addition to the 3-4 million Afghan refugees already) - an Afghan Holocaust and an Afghan Genocide as defined by the UN Genocide Convention (see: http://www.edwebproject.org/sideshow/
genocide/convention.html
).

In addition, in one of his earliest acts on Afghanistan Obama specifically intervened to stop any destruction of Afghan opium crops. According to US CBS News: “While the Obama White House has all but abandoned the Bush administration's program of destroying poppy crops, the Afghan government continues to support poppy crop eradication efforts. Critics said razing poppy fields angered and impoverished rural Afghans without making a significant dent in harvests “ (see “US pays to keep Afghan opium crop down”:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/
11/23/world/main5748633.shtml
).

US restoration of the Taliban-destroyed Afghan opium industry (from 6% of world market share in 2001 to 93% today) is responsible for about 0.9 x 0.1 million = 0.09 million opiate drug-related deaths each year around the world, including the opiate-related deaths of about 11,000 Americans and 400 Australians annually (see “Obama’s Afghan War. Who is the worse terrorist, Obama or Osama?”: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/29546/42/ ).

Hopefully Obama will be the first Nobel Peace Prize Laureate to be prosecuted for war crimes before the International Criminal Court – war crimes associated in Obama’s first year in office with the violent or non-violent avoidable deaths of 0.5 million + 0.16 million + 0.09 million = 0.75 million violent and non-violent excess deaths..

In his 2005 Literature Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, Jewish British playwright Harold Pinter declared:” We have brought torture, cluster bombs, depleted uranium, innumerable acts of random murder, misery, degradation and death to the Iraqi people and call it 'bringing freedom and democracy to the Middle East'. How many people do you have to kill before you qualify to be described as a mass murderer and a war criminal? One hundred thousand? More than enough, I would have thought. Therefore it is just that Bush and Blair be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice.”(see “Art, truth and politics”: http://www.countercurrents.org/arts-pinter081205.htm ).

How many people do you have to kill before you qualify to be described as a mass murderer and a war criminal? Seven hundred and fifty thousand ? More than enough, I would have thought. Therefore it is just that Obama be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice for his war crimes in Occupied Afghanistan alone.
