American Muslim Leaders welcome the calling off of Quran burning---- Urge Muslims to offer special Thanksgiving services in mosques on Friday.

The New York chapter of Muslim Coalition for Peace--USA, a broad based coalition of Muslim organizations and regional alliances from fifteen states have welcomed the calling off of Quran burning by a Florida church, that was to take place on Sept. 11. They hope that the damage done to America's image and national interest worldwide by this hateful stunt is repairable.

They thank the Muslim community for showing restraint in the face of this bigoted provocation. They advise the Muslim community to hold thanksgiving prayers on Friday September 10, 2010, for the threat to interfaith harmony has been averted for the time being.

They thank the American administration and all religious leaders for taking a firm stand against this senseless act of intolerance.

They have also asked the media to exercise responsibility in their coverage.

They point out that Islamophobia is a growing menace to Muslims and Americans--and they have asked all peace loving people to be vigilant. While this threat was from a small, relatively insignificant and unknown church, there are other much more powerful groups with their hate agendas that all decent, peace loving people need to watch out for.

The coalition will redouble its efforts to mobilize the Muslim community to join the October 2nd rally in Washington, DC that is being held to promote unity, justice and prosperity. this will be a part of their ongoing efforts to unite the nation when some fear-mongerers are promoting hatred, bigotry and racism. There is a movement to stop Muslims from building their mosques (masjids) and schools and from exercising their freedom of religion.

The Florida Muslim community was advised to follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad and invite the pastor who had announced the burning of Quran for the Eid-ul-Fitr feast on September 10th. Eidul Fitr is the holiest day for Muslims that celebrates the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting and reflection.
