A dalit villager was killed and at least 60 people were injured, eight of them seriouslyon 15th August, India's independence day, in Badi village of Rohtas district of Bihar state by feudal forces. 12 of the injured are now admitted in PMCH, Patna. The deceased was identified as Vilas Ram.
A 500 strong of upper caste men did not spare even schoolchildren as they attacked them with rods and later threw some of the children down from the roof a house, where they had taken shelter. Most of the injured are elderly, women and school-going children.
The attack on Badi village was organized by feudal forces when the village resisted their attempts to grab 4 katthas of gair mazarua land on which a Ravidas statue stood. This happened far from the eye of the 24/7 news channels. A CPI(ML) team has gone to visit the village to ascertain the facts, which are yet to come to the notice of the national media.
For Dalits in India, freedom is still a far cry. This massacre in a Bihar dalit hamlet on Independence day this year brings home this stark reality.
In protest against this heinous massacre of mahadalits, CPI(ML) will hold a bandh in the Shahabad range, and a Bihar-wide Protest Day on 19th August 2013.
