One
can't help often noticing that certain of our celebrities with a fine
reputation for being helpful to the peace movement have dark secrets
of personal anguish in their past, which upon candid revelation would
help people understand events purposely distorted by corporate media
and thus contributive to political education and consciousness raising
amid a public so grossly misled by the war propaganda through news selection
that purposely disinforms.
FORMER PRESIDENT
JIMMY CARTER
Jimmy Carter enjoys prestige
and respect for his work as a dedicated promoter of peaceful solutions.
What a enormous contribution to peace Carter could make by enlightening
us on the process of covert murderous intention during his presidency.
If he would just 'fess up' about his now no longer secret orders funding,
training and equipping the fundamentalist tribes of the mountains against
the socialist (women liberating) government in Kabul, a full six months
BEFORE the first units of the Soviet army entered Afghanistan. One would
imagine that Carter himself would see the great value of an honest admission
and welcome an opportunity to unburden himself of whatever feelings
of anguish and self-recrimination he might be experiencing.
It was Carter's advisor Zbigniew
Brzezinski, who bragged to French news magazine, Le Nouvel Observateur,
in Paris, 15 January 1998, of suckering in the Russians, by frightening
them into believing the U.S. was threatening to create a hostile Muslim
nation on its doorstep amid the Soviet Muslin republics, by our pouring
in money to arm and train fundamentalists, fundamentalist tribes who
would later receive much more, openly, from successive U.S. administrations,
and which would include the funding, along with Saudi help, of tens
of thousands of extreme Wahhabi sect madrasahs, schools that would eventually
produce the Taliban, who along with Osama bin-Ladin, would eventually
also receive U.S. aid.
“Question: The former
director of the CIA, Robert Gates, stated in his memoirs ["From
the Shadows"], that American intelligence services began to aid
the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet intervention.
In this period you were the national security adviser to President Carter.
You therefore played a role in this affair. Is that correct?
Brzezinski: Yes. According
to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began
during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan,
24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely
otherwise. Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed
the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet
regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president
in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to
induce a Soviet military intervention.”
Peace loving Jimmy, please
tell us candidly of the times when you weren’t for peace and the
mitigating circumstances thereof. Help us understand that the roots
of today's genocidal belligerencies go way back to a history of nefarious
foreign policy.
BILL MOYER
Similarly, recognizing the
wonderful and much appreciated decades long efforts of Bill Moyer to
confront the distortions and war propaganda in conglomerate owned media,
one can only imagine how big a dent Bill could make in conglomerate
owned media's ongoing successful project to rehabilitate the Vietnam
war as something to be proud of, if he would relive and describe for
us in detail, what must have been a supreme agony for young Bill Moyer,
namely, his twenty six months as Chief of Staff and Press Secretary
to President Johnson during the Vietnam war. Here is what Moyer could
help us with:
Media constantly proclaims
each and every Vietnam veteran a hero, silently encouraging viewers,
listeners and readers to forget that many of these veterans were spit
upon in the 70's upon their return home. Today, every politician who
'served' in Vietnam presents himself proudly, and is hailed by media
as an American hero; in spite of three million dead Vietnamese, and
another two million Laotians and Cambodians; in spite of Eisenhower
having admitted that Ho Chi Minh would have won overwhelmingly the all
Vietnam election Ike blocked; in spite of Truman going against Roosevelt's
promise of freedom from French brutal colonial occupation, and putting
back in the French, who had been collaborators with the Japanese; in
spite of our eight years of funding the French war of re-conquest until
the French defeat, and then creating an separate and independent dictatorship
called South Vietnam; in spite of the fact that the government of which
we slaughtered a million of their citizens, in a quarter century attempt
to overthrow, is the very same communist government we now happily trade
with and sponsor for WTO membership.
From October ’64, until
his resignation in December of ‘66, Bill Moyer was described as
Lyndon Johnson’s umbilical cord. What a volcanic blast our favorite
talk host could loose on the media for its praise of the Vietnam War,
categorized as a defense of our freedoms. But Moyer would have to confess
and share with us participation in what he today would consider indictable
in a court of law. The Vietnam War was a crime against humanity that
has gone unpunished.
Below are just a few of the
events Bill Moyer was called upon to defend from 1965 until his resignation
in 1966:
February - The U.S. begins
the regular bombing of North Vietnamese towns and villages.
March - Vietnam War: 3,500
United States Marines arrive in South Vietnam.
Students for a Democratic
Society (SDS) organizes the first teach-in against the Vietnam War,
with 2,500 participants, at the University of Michigan.
April - In the Dominican
Republic, officers and civilians loyal to deposed President Juan Bosch
mutiny against the right-wing junta running the country, setting up
a provisional government. Forces loyal to the deposed military-imposed
government stage a countercoup the next day, and civil war breaks out,
although the new government retains its hold on power. U.S. troops are
sent to the D.R. and to prevent the reinstatement of Bosch.
May - The largest teach-in to date begins at Berkeley, California, attended
by 30,000.
June – An anti-war protest at The Pentagon
July - Johnson announces increase in the number troops in South Vietnam
from 75,000 to 125,000, and to double the number of men drafted per
month from 17,000 to 35,000.
August - President signs a law penalizing the burning of draft cards
with up to 5 years in prison and a $1,000 fine.
October - Indonesian army
arrests and executes communists, using lists provided by CIA.
Brazilian president Castelo
Branco removes power from parliament, legal courts and opposition parties.
(Recent declassified files reveal that Lyndon Johnson had wanted the
US to "take every step" to support the military coup which
overthrew President Joao Goulart 1964, described as a "democratic
rebellion" by the U.S. ambassador)
November - In New York City,
22-year-old Catholic Worker Movement member Roger Allen LaPorte sets
himself on fire in front of the United Nations building in protest of
the war in Vietnam (this was the second such incident in a week; on
32-year-old Quaker member Norman Morrison did the same thing in front
of The Pentagon).
- Congolese lieutenant general
Mobutu ousts Joseph Kasavubu and declares himself president. (Elected
Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba had been deposed in a US CIA sponsored
coup and assassinated in 1961, and is still significant inspirational
figure in the Congo as well as throughout Africa)
- Tens of thousands of Vietnam
War protesters picket the White House, then march on the Washington
Monument. Pentagon tells Johnson number of American troops in Vietnam
will have to be increased from 120,000 to 400,000.
January - Lyndon Johnson
states that the United States should stay in South Vietnam until Communist
aggression there is ended.
March - In South Vietnam,
20,000 Buddhists march in demonstrations against the policies of the
military government.
April - The South Vietnamese
government promises free elections in 3-5 months.
May - Tens of thousands of anti-war demonstrators again picket the White
House, then rally at the Washington Monument. In New York City, Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. makes his first public speech on the Vietnam
War.
June - U.S. planes begin
bombing Hanoi and Haiphong.
August - The House Un-American
Activities Committee starts investigating Americans who have aided the
Viet Cong, with the intent to make these activities illegal. Anti-war
demonstrators disrupt the meeting and 50 are arrested.
_
September - United Nations Secretary-General U Thant declares that he
will not seek re-election, because U.N. efforts in Vietnam have failed.
Moyer prepared Presidential
messages to Congress, and was chief speechwriter. He played a serious
role in foreign policy discussions. "The Young Man in Charge of
Everything,” said Time Magazine at the time.
April 2007, grateful viewers
of the Bill Moyer's Journal conspiracy expose "Buying the War"
on PBS, observe Moyer's now well known demeanor of serenity and serious
inner fortitude as he calmly presents undeniable evidence of criminality
in government with media collusion promoting the deceptions. But the
techniques of deception that Moyer addresses in this documentary on
the fraudulent reasons, pretexts, and lies to produce an acceptance
of bombing, invasion and occupation of Iraq are the same as were used
in presenting justifications for the war in Vietnam, in which Bill Moyer
was supremely complicit as a key player involved in the day to day decisions
of the war and criminal foreign policy toward other nations.
How much more could Bill
help expose the entire murderous facade which confronts America and
the world today, by recalling how similar it was back when our politicians
were just as callous about daily body counts of innocent Indochinese
as today they are about those equally beautiful Iraqi, Afghan and Somali
civilians falling under U.S. bombs and bullets.
It is said that Moyer, at
the time of his resignation was under severe strain, suffering from
a stomach ulcer. Bill has subsequently been more or less on humanity's
side for the greater part of his life. How very very much more could
he accomplish with a complete and elucidating airing of contemptible
U.S. policies within condemning recollections from his dark years.
OUR CINDY SHEEHAN
“It is so painful to
me to know that I bought into this system for so many years and Casey
paid the price for that allegiance. I failed my boy and that hurts the
most.”
Peace activist leader Cindy
Sheehan has shared with us, her deep personal despair in painful regret
for not having protected her son from being misled by ‘his’
government, ‘his’ clergy and ‘his’ so called
free press media, and tricked into participation in an immoral and illegal
war in someone else’s country through lies, half-truths, news
selection, and insidious black-outs of historical context, all for the
criminally insane greed of powerful but ignorant and desperate manipulators
of the American citizenry and the willing collaboration of the nearly
the whole of America's establishment.
In baring her soul, she awoke
so many who had been still asleep to the grim grip of corporate governance
on our children’s lives. Cindy denounced those who pervert the
truth and wrap themselves in the flag as they praise dead Americans
and ignore the ten fold dead of the citizens of countries militarily
occupied and bombed, whose survivors ask us to leave; those who prey
upon the innocently trusting young men of America, ardently desiring
to show themselves a credit to themselves and their families.
Cindy became an international
heroine for single handedly confronting the war promotion of government
and corporate America through ‘big brother’ conglomerate
owned media. She must have asked herself many times, what if her Casey
had NOT be killed, but just the all so many other boys like Casey, as
were already dying prior to Casey's death? Would she ever have come
to be as consummately devoted to everyone’s protection, fiercely
dedicating all her time and resources as she has been during these three
years since his death? One supposes Cindy has questioned herself over
and over again in devastating remorse, why oh why she waited until Casey
was KILLED, waited until it was HER son who was killed to become a politically
educated and a dynamic and articulate activist, so galvanized into spectacular
action.
We, who have come to love
Cindy so much, and admire her being so creatively articulate, must certainly
attempt to console her by pointing out that it was, albeit horribly
so, Casey's death, which awarded her with the credentials of an aggrieved
mother, with the right of attention to her words of protest and condemnation
of the senseless taking of lives, forcing media to recognize her tragic
suffering and justified outrage.
Cindy’s confession
has made countless families think more carefully, especially those mothers
still in favor of the Iraq invasion, bombing and occupation, who might
be brought to a deeper consideration of their parental responsibility
to make an effort to educate themselves to the inhumane and unethical
aspects of these wars, especially in view of the desires of the indigenous
peoples of the countries militarily occupied, who wish us to leave.
Cindy Sheehan bravely and
compassionately shared the regret and affliction in bitter anguish,
pangs of conscience, contrition, heartache, lamentation, self-condemnation,
sorrow, and self-reproach that any mother would feel for not having
been able to apologize to a dead son, nor to diminish her own double
heartbreak for having acquiesced to his going to Iraq, and not having
dissuaded him from enlisting and re-enlisting for Iraq when she had
the chance.
We are not privy to the conversations
and discussions Casey and Cindy had prior to Casey's leaving for Iraq,
and can only imagine in retrospect, the love, concern, and probable
misgivings on the nature of the conflict in light of Cindy's incredible
crusade thereafter. As we ponder Cindy's effective leadership that certainly
is both inspiring and worthy of emulation for that someone who will
step forward and carry her well established motherly cause onward, we
must wish Cindy a nice rest and recuperation from all the harsh and
uncivil words, from an abominably socially undereducated segment of
perhaps the most politically disinterested population on earth, while
hoping to hear from her again some day soon.
Spoke Cindy, on Memorial
Day, “I have invested everything I have into trying to bring peace
with justice to a country that wants neither.” Good-bye America
...you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter
how much I sacrifice, I can’t make you be that country unless
you want it.” "The most devastating conclusion that I reached
this morning, however, was that Casey did indeed die for nothing. His
precious lifeblood drained out in a country far away from his family
who loves him, killed by his own country which is beholden to and run
by a war machine that even controls what we think. I have tried ever
since he died to make his sacrifice meaningful.
The personally painful and
embarrassing locked away memories of esteemed former key personalities
of the establishment who have now planted themselves on the side of
humanity, remain a potent potential force for change away from the perception
of the past in chauvinistic, useless, arrogant and dangerously ignorant
and misplaced pride.
While we await Cindy's return,
Bill Moyer, please tell all, and Jimmy Carter please come clean for
the sake of the people of the world, and for your own reputation and
peace of mind and heart. Silence from both of you will not erase the
truth already well documented for future reference. We wish to think
highly of you and continue to appreciate your help.
