Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will not step down immediately. In his address to the nation on television, he reiterated his stand that he will not run for another presidential term. He said the peaceful transfer of power will start now. A national dialogue has started and it will culminate in the peaceful transfer of power in the next election. He said, he will hand over some power to the Vice President Omar Suleiman. But he did not specify which of the powers are being transferred to the Vice President.

Sharif Abdel Kouddous, a producer of Democracy Now!, who was listening to the speech in Tahrir square of Cairo, tweeted "Hundred hold their shoes in the air in defiance of Mubarak's speech."

Earlier today, Supreme Council of Egyptian Armed Forces met to discuss the ongoing protests against the government of Hosni Mubarak, the president and had released this statement, "Based on the responsibility of the armed forces and its commitment to protect the people and its keenness to protect the nation... and in support of the legitimate demands of the people [the army] will continue meeting on a continuous basis to examine measures to be taken to protect the nation and its gains and the ambitions of the great Egyptian people"
