Islamist Bomb Attack In
Bangladesh Again!

By Salah Choudhury

Simultaneous time bombs exploded in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet on Tuesday injuring at least one person. An Islamist organization named Jadeed Al Qaeda claimed responsibility behind such explosions. This is the second phase of bomb attack since the entire country was rocked following simultaneous bomb attacks in 430 spots during August 17, 2005. Notorious Islamist militancy group Jamaatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB) was behind this attack.

A series of closely-timed bombs went off at Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong railway stations Tuesday morning, spreading panic among commuters and raising security threats. A rickshaw puller was injured in the Chittagong blast. The May Day bombs that exploded between 6:45am and 7:00am caught the government unawares. Aluminum plates inscribed with militant slogans purported to be from an al-Qaeda network, Zadid Al Qaeda Bangladesh, were found at the bombsites. "It only shows militants are active in the country," Inspector General of Police Noor Mohammad told bdnews24.com. But law and order advisory committee chairman Mainul Hosein played down concern over the blasts and said they were 'nothing serious'. Another member of the same committee, MA Matin, was not aware of the explosions until Tuesday noon. An aluminum plate found near the scene in Dhaka has a message inscribed on it: all must quit NGO jobs by May 10 and all 'Kadianis' (Ahmedias) must recognize Prophet Muhammad (SM) or face death.

Inspector General of Police Noor Mohammad says that serial bomb blasts at rail stations in three districts show Islamic militants are active in the country. In a brief interview with reporters, the country's police chief assured that the police would investigate how the militants repeated their anti-law feats after many of their godfathers and mentors were arrested.
