Women Of The Soil

By Sushmita Verma

11 March, 2016
Countercurrents.org

We wear abuses like
Precious garlands
Sluts, whores, randis
Why should these be your privileges only
We are finally becoming
Who we wanted to be

Embracing our sexuality
Finding our voices
In the cacaphony
Of your ill tempered noises
Dissenting, writing and singing
We are becoming
Who we want to be

The fire that you
Throw on our faces
Rekindles our burning desire
Of writing our names
Names on the walls
Like bad omen
A bad omen for all you conspire

We, women of the soil
We are anything but stoppable
We take abuses
And turn them into smiles,
We, the women of the soil
