7th Anniversary Appeal
Countercurrents is celebrating its 7th anniversary. We take this occasion to thank all our readers, commentators, well wishers and especially our writers who contribute day by day, little gems of insight and reason . It's with your support we have reached where we are today. But we know, we have a long way to go, especially in these troubled times. We want to light a little lamp of hope for the billions of people and all other species with whom we share our existence on this planet. We have to preserve this beautiful place for the future. Ours is a muffled forlorn cry in the cacophony of voices in the vast landscape of the internet. Will you help us to make our voice heard a little louder? You can do so by making a little contribution to our efforts, financially or otherwise. We encourage you all who are capable to become our paid subscribers by contributing just $ 50, or the equivalent of whatever currency at your disposal , a year. Since the financial meltdown has started our financial contributions have virtually stopped. Why not give us a little birthday present by joining our subscriber programme? This could be of great help in this difficult phase that CC is going through.
I hate to ask you but I have no choice other than turning to you. As you know we dont seek advertisement or institutional donations. I want to keep CC truly an alternative voice. But we have expenses to keep the site going. I have to spend about $ 300 a month for hosting, bandwidth and other expenses. We raise funds only twice a year. Now, we have to raise at least $2000. For that at least 40 of you have to contribute. Countercurrents needs your support, NOW!

Countercurrents.org came online on 27 March 2002. We have been providing cutting edge news, views and analysis ever since. We have been warning the world of the impending financial meltdown. We have been warning the world of the dangers of climate change with disastrous consequences for human beings and all the species of the world. We have been warning the world of energy depletion and the need to develop alternative sources of energy. We have been warning of the onset of fascism in India, United States and in many other parts of the world. More importantly, we have become the voice of the voiceless, brutally silenced by the corporate mainstream media. Do you want to join us and make this voice heard loud and clear?
How you can help
There are so many ways you can support CC and help this voice reach thousands of others who would love to hear it. First of all, you can tell your friends and family about CC. we have a mailing list. You can join this mailing list and forward it to your friends and encourage them to sign up. We have some beautiful and hard hitting flyers, you can download and print them and distribute in rallies, marches, meetings, conferences or just pin it up on your school/college/office notice board. And more importantly, you can subscribe to CC by paying $ 50 a year and help us make our ends meet and help us grow.
Why Subscribe?
You may have seen in your life many organisations, magazines or websites coming up promising so much and just vanish into thin air. In most cases, it's the want of funds that cause the sad demise of those initiatives. Do you want CC to go that way? I pray, not!
There is the lure of advertisements. For a website with the reach of CC can raise thousands of dollars a month by placing advertisemnts. If we do so, we would be cheating you, selling you to the advertisers. And there is the problem of the business interest of advertisers influencing content. After all that's what the mainstream media do, selling the readers to business interests. No, that is not an option before us!
There are many progressive sites who limit the access to content only to those who contribute financially. We do not want to do that either. We want our content to be available to all, susbcribers and nonsubcribers alike.
And there is the possiblity of seeking donation from institutional donors and foundations. Every donation comes with strings attached. We want that neither.
We want CC to be funded 100 % by you - our readers! For that we have developed a unique subscription programme.
Pensioners, Students, Low Income Group Exempted
We discourage students and pensioners and low income group from paying our subscription amount. We hope others who can spare our subscription amount to support these low income groups.
Our Subscription Programme
What is unique about our subscription programme is that unlike the usual subscriber based magazines , news papers or websites, CC will be available to non subscribers as well. Our subscription programme is only to raise funds for our survival and to set aside an amount for our future growth, ie, it's not for profit. By our subscription programme, those who can contribute support or subsidise those who can't pay. By paying you are helping CC to reach thousands of others who can't pay.
Our subscription amount is $ 50 a year, and you'll be paying it in two instalments. Once you log in , $ 25 will be charged from your card, and six months later the rest will be automatically deducted from your card. And the cyle will stop and you'll have to log in again to subscribe nex t year. If you wish, you can unsubscribe any time you like too.
