The Olympic Scandal You Never Heard About

By Michael Robeson

15 August, 2012

A satirical take on the hypocrisy of political correctness at the Olympic Games

Everyone has heard of Nadja Drygalla, the German Olympic Rower, who under pressure left her team when news reports revealed that her boyfriend is a member of a Neo Nazi group. But another scandal was ignored throughout the London competitions and is only now being revealed. At least one American athlete of the 2012 Olympic team, rower Krystal Goodbite, is an open supporter of the extreme right wing of the Republican Party. Her wealthy family is a major contributor to Republican Evangelical politicians in the deep South. She herself interned for a Republican Congressman in Florida who has a long history of voting for increasing the Pentagon’s budget and for supporting military invasions of foreign countries. In addition, Ms. Goodbite shows extremely questionable judgment in her choice of significant other. She has been involved for over three years in a relationship with a life long Democrat who is a Corporate executive with a Fortune 500 corporation whose profits derive primarily from arms and munitions contracts with the Pentagon.

Only one German newspaper has reported on the American athlete’s political connections and the story that has not appeared in the American media. A Berlin journalist, Heinrich Schiller, wrote: “Unlike in the case of the German rower, we are not talking about the politics of something that occurred 60 years ago. American Republicans and Democrats have been the political power behind almost all of our century’s murderous invasions and military adventurism. Their wars of world domination have lasted twice as long as the years of WWII. Shouldn’t an athlete complicit in this violence through her support of their political agendas be questioned at least as severely as Ms. Drugalla has been?”

Mr.Schiller further wrote: “Republican/Democrats have never entered their “neo” phase. They have a far longer history of political corruption, military aggression and Judeo-Christian hypocrisy than any other Western political movement. Since before the American Civil war, they have taken turns committing genocide against Native Americans and supporting lynching laws and racist policies against blacks and American minorities. They have both supported and promoted military invasions and covert wars against dozens of countries, almost all of them represented by athletes in the Olympic Games. Together, they are turning “democracy” into a dirty word.

“Most journalists who condemn the Neo Nazi movement forget that since the 1950’s,it has been thoroughly infiltrated by German and British Intelligence and has been funded and organized by them. The German rower’s boyfriend may be one of their paid agents. In this, the Republicans and Democrats are similar, for they too are beholden to agents of a foreign power – a certain unnamed Middle East country.

“We should be concerned about the feelings of athletes from France or Poland or Russia or Israel who are competing against the German rower and her sordid political beliefs. So we should also be concerned about the feelings of athletes from Mexico, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cuba, Vietnam, Nicaragua and Iraq who are competing against athletes like Ms.Goodbite representing a country that is trying to beat them again. Or are some victims of some historical atrocities more special than others? If we are willing to question what is going on in the German rower’s mind, we should also be questioning what is going on in the American’s.”

During the Games, a German reporter asked Ms.Goodbite to comment on Mr.Schiller’s remarks. “There is nothing going on in my mind!” she replied. “America is a force of good and peace in the world. And that’s what I’m all about.”

Asked by a London reporter if she would follow the decision of the German rower and leave the Games, Ms. Goodbite said “There’s no “I” in TEAM. I came here to do a job. The personal doesn’t always have to be the political, you know.”

Asked if the potential for commercial sponsorships affected her decision not to leave, Ms.Goodbite replied, “How could you be so cynical? Like all of the other competitors here, I’m a professional amateur athlete!”

Ms. Goodbite’s significant other, Mr. Mort Klinger, was unavailable for comment. However, an investigation into his corporation’s activities showed that his entire career has been involved with the Military Industrial Complex and that he has worked actively in promoting the manufacture and sales of cluster bombs, phosphorous bombs and land mines.

Asked about her boyfriend’s career choice that profits from maiming and killing and from selling products that some consider to be the tools of state terrorism, Ms.Goodbite responded, “Why are you being so judgmental? Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Mort had a very troubled childhood. Besides, everybody has to make a living. It’s not like he’s molesting little boys.”

It is unknown how many other American athletes who competed in the London Olympics are as politically tainted as Ms. Goodbite. Olympic officials have promised that athletes in future Games will be more closely vetted to avoid staining the Olympic Game trademark.
