Egyptian Military Coup Against Democratically-Elected Morsi Government

In the second Coup under Obama by US-backed military against a democratically-elected government, the US-backed Egyptian military have ousted and imprisoned Egypt 's first democratically-elected president, President Mohamed Morsi, and his democratically-elected Muslim Brotherhood Government. Already Neocon American- and Zionist Imperialist-perverted Mainstream media and politicians are turning truth on its head by asserting that democratically-elected Morsi was “un-democratic” and that those destroying Egyptian democracy are actually restoring it.
In an appalling example of this Orwellian falsehood, an unsigned editorial of the Rupert Murdoch–owned Wall Street Journal stated: “ Egyptians would be lucky if their new ruling generals turn out to be in the mold of Chile 's Augusto Pinochet, who took over power amid chaos but hired free-market reformers and midwifed a transition to democracy ” . [1].
The UK Guardian newspaper commented: “ Presumably, this means that those who speak for the Wall Street Journal – the editorial was unsigned – think Egypt should think itself lucky if its ruling generals now preside over a 17-year reign of terror. I also take it the WSJ means us to associate two governments removed by generals – the one led by Salvador Allende in Chile and the one led by Mohamed Morsi in Egypt . Islamist, socialist … elected, legitimate … who cares? Presumably, the WSJ thinks the Egyptians now have 17 years in which to think themselves lucky when any who dissent are tortured with electricity, raped, thrown from planes or – if they're really lucky – just shot. That's what happened in Chile after 1973, causing the deaths of between 1,000 and 3,000 people. Around 30,000 were tortured. Presumably, the WSJ hopes a general in the mold of Pinochet (or generals, as they didn't break the mold when they made him) will preside over all this with the assistance of Britain and America . Perhaps he (or they) will return the favour by helping one of them win a small war.” [2].
Unfortunately one expects this from the pro-war, pro-Zionist, anti-democracy, Wall Street Journal that is a mouthpiece for extreme right wing, pro-war, pro-Zionist, anti-Arab anti-Semitic, Islamophobic, Australian-turned –American media mogul, Rupert Murdoch, whose perversion of democracy in Western countries has been described as Murdochracy, Lobbyocracy and Corporatocracy – the process whereby Big Money buys politicians, parties, polices, public perception of reality, votes and political power. This latest horrifying Corporatist excrement from the Murdoch Media Empire provides yet another reason for all decent people around the world to Boycott Murdoch Media. [3].
Clearly the major beneficiaries of the Egyptian Coup by the US-backed Egyptian military will be the genocidally racist Neocon American and Zionist Imperialist (NAZI) One Percenters running the US and US-backed democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel. As adumbrated by the Wall Street Journal, the US and the UK will very likely get quid pro quo diplomatic and military support from the Egyptian military for US Alliance imperialism in Africa (Mali, Niger, Somalia, Libya), the Middle East (Palestine, Yemen, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran), Asia (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Philippines, Myanmar, East Asia), and elsewhere. Apartheid Israel will get Egyptian opposition to Syria , Hezbollah and Iran and Egyptian support for the ongoing Apartheid Israeli Palestinian Genocide. The Egyptian Coup is the second coup under Obama by US-backed military against a democratically-elected government, the other instance being the US-backed military Coup against the democratically-elected government of Honduras. [4].
However under US federal law, U.S. non-humanitarian aid must be cut off to “the government of any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup d'état or decree or, after the date of enactment of this Act, a coup d'état or decree in which the military plays a decisive role” and the Egyptian Coup thus puts at risk $1.3 billion in annual aid to Egypt's military (about 20% of its annual funding) and another $250 million in annual economic aid. [5].
Indeed Senator Patrick Leahy (Vermont Democrat, chairman of the Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on the State Department and Foreign Operations, and as President pro tempore of the United States Senate, third in the presidential line of succession) has said aid to the Egyptian military should be cut off: “Egypt's military leaders say they have no intent or desire to govern, and I hope they make good on their promise. In the meantime, our law is clear: U.S. aid is cut off when a democratically elected government is deposed by military coup or decree.” [5].
For this reason, the anti-democracy forces in the US from President Obama down are at pains not to criticize the Egyptian military or to call the military Coup a military Coup. Indeed, some of these anti-democracy US politicians turn reality on its head by accusing the democratically-elected Morsi Government for being anti-democratic and praising the democracy-overthrowing Egyptian military as furthering democracy, as exampled below.
Thus US President Obama stated “Nevertheless, we are deeply concerned by the decision of the Egyptian Armed Forces to remove [President Morsi] and suspend the Egyptian constitution. I now call on the Egyptian military to move quickly and responsibly to return full authority back to a democratically elected civilian government”, (noting that he referred to restoration of A democratically-elected government and not of THE democratically-elected Muslim Brotherhood government). [6].
Jewish Zionist Republican and House majority leader, Eric Cantor, praised the Egyptian military for taking action, saying, “Democracy is about more than elections… Egypt 's stability is tremendously important for America 's national security and for the security of our allies in the Middle East . The Egyptian people have made clear that President Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood government has threatened the pluralistic democracy for which they called two years ago.” [5].
Representative. Edward R. Royce (Republican, California , the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee) “Morsi was an obstacle to the constitutional democracy most Egyptians wanted… I am hopeful that his departure will reopen the path to a better future for Egypt and I encourage the military and all political parties to cooperate in the peaceful establishment of democratic institutions and new elections that lead to an Egypt where minority rights are accepted.” [6].
In contrast, presumably impelled in part by partisan politics, extreme right wing Senator John McCain (Republican, Arizona) has called the Egyptian Coup that ousted President Mohamed Morsi a military coup: “It was a coup and it was the second time in two-and-a-half years that we have seen the military step in. It's a strong indicator of the lack of American leadership and influence since we've urged the military not to do that. The place is descending into chaos but so is the entire Middle East because of the total vacuum and lack of American leadership...Whether it be the massacres in Syria; Lebanon is beset by sectarian violence; Jordan is about to collapse under the weight of refugees; Iraq is unraveling; Afghanistan -- we're having grave problems organizing a follow on force in Afghanistan… Reluctantly, I believe that we have to suspend aid until such time as there is a new constitution and a free and fair election. We can't -- Morsi was a terrible president… Their economy is in terrible shape thanks to their policies but the fact is the United States should not be supporting this coup and it's a tough call." ]7].
Islam Abdel-Rahman, a member of the foreign-affairs committee of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, has similarly stated: “ Washington , with its lever on the Egyptian army, could stop it, unless they sent a green light for it. This is a military coup that was warned about for two days against a democratically elected government.” [6].
In the UK all parties have condemned the Egyptian Military Coup.
Thus UK Foreign Minister William Hague: "We don't support military intervention as a way to resolve disputes in a democratic system. It's of course a dangerous precedent to do that, if one president can be deposed by the military then of course another one can be in the future." [8].
Labour shadow foreign secretary, Douglas Alexander, said: "We do not support military interventions in democratic systems, and it is important that Egypt urgently sets out a clear and credible path back to democratic rule.” [8].
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said the government did not support coups and wanted return to a peaceful democratic government "as quickly as possible… I hope we will look back on this as a very, very painful phase of change for a country not accustomed to democracy and democratic transfer of power from one government to the other.” [8].
Naturally enough, as illustrated by the appalling Wall Street Journal editorial, the pro-war, pro-Zionist, US lackey Mainstream media around the world are joining in this flagrant support for the overthrow of Egypt 's first ever democratically-elected government and first ever democratically-elected president, President Mohamed Morsi. In US lackey Australia (once called the Lucky Country and now called the Lackey Country) Mainstream media presstitutes and pro-US MPs were quick to spout the dishonest, anti-democratic American line. Thus the right wing Opposition expressed concerns over the Coup but qualified this by commenting that the Morsi Government had lost public support (in reality it gained 52% of the vote only 1 year ago). Similarly, the endlessly lying, pro-war, pro-Zionist, US-subverted ABC ( Australia 's equivalent of the UK BBC) dishonestly implied that democratically elected Morsi was “undemocratic” while the military Coup was part of Egypt 's “democracy project”. This is as much as can be expected from the pro-war, pro-Zionist, anti-Arab anti-Semitic, anti-democracy, US lackey Australian Mainstream media and MPs who similarly regard Apartheid Israel as a “democracy” notwithstanding the appalling reality that only 6.7% of 12 million Palestinians actually get to vote for the government ruling all of Palestine and 50% are forbidden to even step foot in their own country.
A frightening aspect of this US-backed Military Coup is that the US-backed Egyptian military have been imprisoning, torturing and killing Muslim Brotherhood members for decades and have now evidently resumed this evil, anti-democratic program. Since 1945 successive US Administrations have invaded 50 countries and subverted virtually all countries (including the US itself) [4] as revealed by world heroes Edward Snowden and Julian Assange and the detailed accounts of great Americans such as Daniel Ellsberg [9], Dr Steve Pieczenik [10], Phillip Agee [11], William Blum [12], Dr Zoltan Grossman [13] and John Perkins [14]. US policy is to subvert, or if necessary invade, and then imprison, torture, kill or exile people it does not like - and then hold “democratic” elections. [11-14] .This will evidently be the fate of briefly democratic Egypt unless the world takes action against the anti-democracy Neocon American- and Zionist Imperialist-ruled US, democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel, the anti-democratic Egyptian military and its US-perverted, anti-democracy supporters.
Conclusions.
Decent people throughout the world will recognize the ousting and imprisonment of democratically-elected President Mohamed Morsi and his democratically elected Muslim Brotherhood Freedom and Justice Party Government as a grossly human rights–abusing military Coup by the US-backed Egyptian military. This is a huge victory for genocidally racist Apartheid Israel and for the Neocon American and Zionist Imperialist One Percenters who run America and indeed most of the world.
Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. Decent people around the world must (a) inform everyone they can and (b) urge and apply Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against anti-democracy Egypt , anti-democracy Apartheid Israel , and against anti-democracy, Neocon American- and Zionist Imperialist-perverted America , and their perverted and subverted supporters such as the pro-war, pro-Zionist, Islamophobic , US Murdoch media [3].
Noting that 80% of adult African –American males are excluded from voting in Chicago [15] and 93% of 12 million Palestinians are excluded from voting for the government ruling all of Palestine [16], for those eligible to vote in the Western Murdochracies, Lobbyocracies and Corporatocracies, the fundamental rule should be not to vote for those who are “soft” on military Coups and who do not unequivocally support one-man-one-vote democracy.
