Save Tamilnadu Fishermen

Petition Campaign

02 February, 2011

To: Indian Government

The Honourable
Prime Minister and President of India

SUBJECT: Save Tamil Nadu fishermen

Fishermen of India are frequently killed, attacked and their fishing boats and their launches are confiscated by naval forces of Sri Lanka. Recently we have lost around 539 fishermen with least cost around Tamil Nadu coastal region. Enormous life and economic loss to the fishing communities particularly in Nagapatnam district leads to set emotions run high against Sri Lanka in the state. Coastal region of Tamilnadu stays with fear of life on every fishermen's family. We trust Indian force have tackled such issues successfully with Pakistan and Bangladesh in past years. Here we need such potent solution to remove such loss of Tamilnadu fishermen.

Here we from India and across the globe need such demands immediately:

Warn SriLankan government to stop attacking Indian fishermen. In our opinion, fishermen have right to fish in sea regardless of international boundaries

Ensure adequate patrolling of Palk Straits by Indian Navy to provide protection to Tamil Nadu fishermen and their properties

Katchatheevu should be returned to Indian sovereignty from Sri Lanka which is an important landing point for Tamil Nadu fishermen in their day to day fishing activities. If both the governments want to share katchatheevu as a common heritage ,then IMLB should be made flexible and the fishermen from both the sides should be allowed to fish freely. One more violation of the pact,India should consider cancelling its bilateral ties if it cares about its citizens and go to International court of justice.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
