The canonization of the two Palestinian saints, Miriam Bawarde from the Galilee, and Maria Ghattas from Jerusalem at the Vatican in the 17th of May carries several messages to the world. The first message is that Palestinians produced saints as they produce poets and fighters for the freedom of their home country. It's a message that Palestinian are rooted deeply in their country, and the Zionist land theft and occupation shall end one day.
The second message is that Palestinians are struggling not only to restore Palestine from the east European Jewish Zionist invaders, but also to restore the holiness of Palestine.Zionist Jews has converted Palestine into a large jail for the natives of Palestine. In this respect, the conflict is a value conflict.
A conflict between Palestinians who want to restore the holy nature of Palestine, based on justice, freedom and peace, and the Zionists who want Palestine an apartheid state based on the culture of oppression and death.
The timing of the canonization is significant. It is to remind the world that in May 1948, the Jewish-Zionist terrorists from East Europe, with the backing of Britain and other European countries colonized Palestine.Palestine natives were murdered and displaced. Not surprisingly, Israel was not happy by the canonization. The reason is that canonization of two Palestinian women lived in the 19th century confronting the Zionist Jewish self-created propaganda that Palestine was an empty land waiting the Zionist Jews.
It’s a message of harmony and coexistence among the peoples of the region; at a time when the imperial powers and Zionists play on the religious differences to put the various religious groups in eternal conflict. Finally, it is a message that consolidates the position of Palestine as a country where various religious groups lived and developed their life peacefully before the Zionist invasion.
Dr. Salim Nazzal, a Palestinian-Norwegian historian on the Middle East, He has written extensively on social and political issues in the region.
