The Message Behind The Cyber Attack On Israel

By Dr Salim Nazzal

08 April, 2013

Regardless of the limited damage which the international cyber attack on Israeli sites has inflicted, the aim is about the message which it the attack may convey.

The attack believed to be launched by an Anonymous group described as an international pro Palestine hacker seemingly belonging to several nations from the east and the west.

The significance of the attack is that it represents in the view of many in Palestine a strong message from the world to the state of Israel that enough is enough.

A Palestinian source told me that he thinks that the attack prime message is directed not only to Israel, but also to the US which the right of Palestine to be a full member at the UN was blocked by the US.

However it is known fact that the USA has been the major obstacle for the UN to grant Palestine a full membership in the UN.
Last November the UN general assembly voted overwhelmly to recognize Palestine as a non member state, despite the fierce opposition from the United States and Israel.

In his view the symbolic attack is a message to Israel that the time Israel turn its back to all international laws is over. And if the UN is unable to stop Israel (the popular UN) to use his words will do that. He sounds pretty convinced that that the world conscious would not tolerate any longer that occupying Palestine remains a Jewish point of view.

Not far from this analysis a Palestinian intellectual living in Europe thinks that the timing of the attack which coincided with commemoration of the Jewish holocaust , is a strong message that the world does not allow any more the Zionist abuse of the Jewish Holocaust to occupy and humiliate Palestinians.

He is sure of that the space attack is a clear indication that the world is getting fed up with Zionist Jews who have long been behaving as if they are above all international laws!

In his view the space attack solidarity campaign is equal to the international solidarity movements which sent several boats to Gaza all
Blocked by Israel? He thinks that the international solidarity movement with Palestine is creating new ways and methods to support justice for Palestine the later space attack is one of them.

And to the question if this could be a new phase in the conflict with Israel, he thinks it’s early to judge at this moment. Palestine is open to all possibilities including the possibility of a third Intifada.

However, it is worth to mention that Palestinians have been lately concerned that the intensive media coverage of the (Arab spring) particularly in the civil war in Syria has led to less light focused on the Palestinian issue.

Yet the question of a possible Third Intifada still an open question which was much mentioned in the Palestinian circles without knowing whether this is a wishful thinking or the situation on the ground is ready for it. .

A Palestinian-Norwegian historian in the Middle East, who has written extensively on social and political issues in the region.
