So Far, Not So Good: An Open Letter To Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir

By Adil Manzoor

02 October, 2015
Countercurrents.org

AS-SALAMU ALAYKUM Mr. CM,

Hope you are fit and fine. Hope all is well. First of all let me wish you Eid Mubarak. Sorry for the late wish but KyaKru there was internet blockade at my Paradise. Then I thought let me use the oldest form of communication. By the way was internet blocked their too??

Let me directly come to the purpose of this letter. Actually I want to tell you so many things but because of two obvious reasons I can’t tell all of them. The first reason is there is so much to tell and the second reason is in fact you know all those things being a senior most politician.

The 2014 elections were historic as well as important in nature for the Jammu and Kashmir, for you and as well as for your coalition partner BJP. You won smoothly but one must need to say that credit goes to the “BAD-GOVERNANCE’’ of the previous govt. Your coalition with the saffron party was indeed a surprising one because of the fact that both the parties bear opposite ideology.Well in politics anything is possible.

Do you know sir I was one of those who voted for the first time. The experience was thrilling but inside I was crying knowing that I was playing with my own blood.

As I was on complete boycott. Till this happened:

1. Alike others I too wanted to boycott but when I came to know that you are going to release arrested youth, I voted.

2. I would like to sit aside in solitude instead of voting but when I knew that you have concrete plans to revoke AFSPA, I voted.

3. I decided not to vote but when I came to know that you have a great vision ofentrepreneurship and private sector development, I voted.

4. In Democratic era, when the voice of the people remains unheard I Thought there is no fun to vote but when I heard that your party has the main objective of ‘SELF-RULE”, I Voted.

5. I was ready to follow up lay man’s saying ‘’ ye sareaese he hai, kuchnikarege’’ but when I read the eye catching point from your election manifesto that you will make the state socially cohesive, I voted.

Indeed the arrested youth were never released. I don’t know was it really upto you to release them or you had just fooled us.

Secondly, of course the matter of AFSPA still remains untouched. By the grace of this act a simple constable enjoys more powers than his rank. Sir please there is no need to encourage them for the promotions ( as you recently said, like in foreign countries a constable retires as police commissioner). By the way from those developed foreign countries you only brought some thing for the constables with you. It was far better to copy and learn better things from them like Freedom of Speech, recruitment policy, people friendly governance and business development schemes etc.

In fact the idea to developing entrepreneurship and private sector was best among all but sir when I went to the district industrial center they don’t have land for my project. So now being the student of Masters in Business innovation I am of no use for my state. My ideas are now in the gutter.

Obviously there is no ‘’Self Rule’’ kind of situation so far. Even I am confused who is ruling our state. Don’t know what is going to be banned in future. Is it Nimaz?

Yes, Socially cohesive was a good idea but how the society will work towards the well-being of each other, when you ban their rights. How the society will create the sense of belongingness, trust and opportunities when you will ban them internet access even on the auspicious occasion of Eid.
I was not interesting in voting but when I heard that my constituency is presenting a CM candidate like you to the state. So I thought not to miss that opportunity,

I know that, the above mentioned things that I have writtendefinitely needs some special powers and a particular courage to take such decisions. Well, I hope you got both of these. Forget power and courage now, I know you are capable of bringing positive reforms in any sector. So bring them through the gate way of good-governance. Otherwise your activities can too lead to the success of other.

I am very sure that you will prove me wrong and very soon you will give a surprise not only me but to every one of us and that time I will put my index finger up in the air and say yes ‘ I was right, I voted.

And yes sir, I am fan of your silent politics, you don’t need to speak that much, your eyes say it all.

Your youth
