Rev. Dr. King versus FrighteningAnd Deadly Hypocrisy In Obama's UN Address

By Jay Janson

26 September, 2012
Countercurrents.org

Passages are quoted from Obama's address to the 67th UN General Assembly alongside passages from  Martin Luther King's world shocking sermon Beyond Vietnam - a Time to Break Silence. From the sour feeling in one's own gut while listening to the absurdities, one assumes that the President himself must have a strong stomach to be able to speak such preposterous untruth with a straight and stern face. Obama's falsifications noted.

Martin Luther King Jr.:
""The greatest purveyor of violence in the world today is my own government. US Wars and violence overseas are all meant to maintain unjust predatory investments."

President Barack Obama:
"We intervened in Libya alongside a broad coalition, and with the mandate of the U.N. Security Council, because we had the ability to stop the slaughter of innocents; and because we believed that the aspirations of the people were more powerful than a tyrant."

["Intervened" = striking with missiles and bombing the not unpopular Arab Socialist Government of oil wealthy Libya of a higher UN Human Development Index than nine European nations, already under attack by CIA, M16, French, Israeli, Turkish, Saudi secret services financed armed gangs, including al Qaeda, trying to bring re-division of Libya to the previous seven thousand year separation of Cyrenaica (Benghazi) and Tripolitania.] [3] [4]

["UN Security Council" = usually controlled by the US and its European Allies, denounced by various Presidents of the UN General Assembly and labeled 'A Council of Terror' by the Chairman of the African Union for being from the beginning, with its calling for the invasion of Korea, consistently representing the US foreign policy of war and violence.]

[ "stop the slaughter of innocents" = a pretext based on successful deceit by the war promoting anchors of the widely watched CNN with not one single photo or video of substantiation.] [5]

["tyrant" = a leader of the Colonial Powers oppressed third world who opposes Western imperialism, who nationalized his nation's oil profits in order to provide housing, free health care and education for his people and led the forming of an African Union to oppose Europe and American plundering exploitation of Africa and its people - a leader, who, in the investors managed media of the West, was constantly slandered as as evil since nationalizing investor oil profits]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Martin Luther King Jr.:
"Look across the seas and see individual capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa, and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the country. This is a role our nation has taken, " refusing to give up the privileges and the pleasures that comes from the immense profits of overseas investments. This is not just."

President Barack Obama:
"Arab Spring.*  Since then, the world has been captivated by the transformation that has taken place, and the United States has supported the forces of change.
We were inspired by the Tunisian protests that toppled a dictator, because we recognized our own beliefs in the aspirations of men and women who took to the streets.
We insisted on change in Egypt, because our support for democracy put us on the side of the people.
We supported a transition of leadership in Yemen, because the interests of the people were not being served by a corrupt status quo. " **

* [ 'Arab Spring' = a corporatist-owned mass media intentionally misleading euphemism for massively supported (in the tens of thousands) peaceful revolutions against US maintained cruel dictators in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, and elsewhere and meant to include Libya where no American support dictatorship existed].
** [A "corrupt status quo" and set of dictators in all three countries supported by the US and European financial element they served,  heavily armed by investor beholden US Presidents and European Prime Ministers]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Martin Luther King Jr.:
"Deadly Western arrogance has poisoned the international atmosphere for so long. They must see Americans as strange liberators
We encouraged them with our huge financial and military supplies to continue the war
Soon we would be paying almost the full costs of this tragic attempt at recolonization
They are surely right to wonder what kind of new government we plan to help form without them
... this lack of confidence in Western words, and especially their distrust of American intentions now".

President Barack Obama:
"as we meet here, we again declare that the regime of Bashar al-Assad must come to an end so that the suffering of the Syrian people can stop, and a new dawn can begin." *
* [Not only in the foreign press and Internet, but in mainstream press CIA and Mossad involvement in heavily arming and assisting attacks on the government is openly reported.][1][2]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Martin Luther King Jr.:
"Here is the true meaning and value of compassion and nonviolence, when it helps us to see the enemy's point of view, to hear his questions, to know his assessment of ourselves. For from his view we may indeed see the basic weaknesses of our own condition, and if we are mature, we may learn and grow and profit from the wisdom of the brothers who are called the opposition."
Their questions are frighteningly relevant. Is our nation planning to build on political myth again, and then shore it up upon the power of new violence?
Now there is little left to build on, save bitterness. Soon, the only solid -- solid physical foundations remaining will be found at our military bases. "

President Barack Obama:
"I know there are some who ask why we don't just ban such a video. The answer is enshrined in our laws: our Constitution protects the right to practice free speech. "
* [Laws in the US as elsewhere prosecute as a crime the cry of "fire" in a crowd, or any other action or words intended to provoke panic and harm or cause a riot - this video has has murder by beheading, stabbing and men putting their faces in between a woman's opened legs in the name of the Prophet among other slanderous statements against Allah. Compare this with when author was a child. Kissing on the mouth and four letter sex terms were not permitted in movies - under the same principle of freedom of speech.]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Martin Luther King Jr.:
"What we are submitting them to is not simply the brutalizing process that goes on in any war where armies face each other and seek to destroy. We are adding cynicism to the process of death, for they must know after a short period there that none of the things we claim to be fighting for are really involved."

President Barack Obama:
"The attacks on our civilians in Benghazi were attacks on America."
[In his remarks on the day of Ambassador Stevens death, Obama emotionally praised the three of fallen ("civilian") staff for their combat roles in Iraq, though Obama had once described Iraq as a "dumb war" (More that a million Iraqis died for no reason ever given in that 'dumb war' never apologized for as was not the 'mistaken' war on Vietnam).]
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Martin Luther King Jr.:
"So they go, primarily women and children and the aged. They watch as we poison their water, as we kill a million acres of their crops. They must weep as the bulldozers roar through their areas preparing to destroy the precious trees. They wander into the hospitals with at least twenty casualties from American firepower for one inflicted injury. So far we may have killed a million of them, mostly children. They wander into the towns and see thousands of the children, homeless, without clothes, running in packs on the streets like animals. They see the children degraded by our soldiers as they beg for food. They see the children selling their sisters to our soldiers, soliciting for their mothers."

President Barack Obama:
"The war in Iraq is over, and our troops have come home. [All hailed as heroes, as all who fought in US Wars, in this case, heroes of the war Obama called "dumb."]
-- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

President Barack Obama:
"We have begun a transition in Afghanistan, and America and our allies will end our war on schedule in 2014." [Two years later? Is this meant to sound like something commendable? How many more are condemned to die for US investors for mineral deposits found and an oil pipeline?]

Martin Luther King Jr.:
"I have tried to give a voice to the voiceless and to understand the arguments of those who are called "enemy," the more sophisticated surely realize that we are on the side of the wealthy, and the secure, while we create a hell for the poor.

Somehow this madness must cease. We must stop now. I speak as a child of God and brother to the suffering. I speak for those whose land is being laid waste, whose homes are being destroyed, whose culture is being subverted. I speak of the -- for the poor of America who are paying the double price of smashed hopes at home, and death and corruption in ... I speak as a citizen of the world, for the world as it stands aghast at the path we have taken.  The great initiative in this war is ours; the initiative to stop it must be ours.

This is the message of the great Buddhist leaders of Vietnam. Recently one of them wrote these words, and I quote:
Each day the war goes on the hatred increases in the hearts of those of humanitarian instinct. The Americans are forcing even their friends into becoming their enemies. It is curious that the Americans, who calculate so carefully on the possibilities of military victory, do not realize that in the process they are incurring deep psychological and political defeat. The image of America will never again be the image of revolution, freedom, and democracy, but the image of violence and militarism" (unquote).

President Obama:
"We have taken these positions because we believe that freedom and self-determination are not unique to one culture. These are not simply American values or Western values -- they are universal values. And even as there will be huge challenges that come with a transition to democracy,  I am convinced that ultimately government of the people, by the people and for the people is more likely to bring about the stability, prosperity, and individual opportunity that serve as a basis for peace in our world."
[One assumes from the feeling in one's own gut listening to the absurdities spoken by Barack Obama in front of the delegates that the President himself must have a strong stomach to be able to speak such preposterous untruth with a straight and stern face.]

Martin Luther King Jr.:
"If we continue, there will be no doubt in my mind and in the mind of the world that we have no honorable intentions .... If we do not stop our war against the people ... immediately, the world will be left with no other alternative than to see this as some horrible, clumsy, and deadly game we have decided to play."

President Obama:
"the destination is clear -- a secure, Jewish state of Israel; and an independent, prosperous Palestine. ... that such a peace must come through a just agreement between the parties," [Obama knows well that the absurd and illegal Partition drawn by the Colonial Powers dominated UN, which Albert Einstein, Martin Buber and Yehudi Menuhin opposed, was never intended for peace, but for unending civil war and a European enclave in the oil rich Middle East. The Israelis in power obviously want to rule the rest of the lands of the Bible and are willing to be patient. Obama dissimulates not knowing this as is expected of him politically.]

Martin Luther King Jr.:
"The world now demands a maturity of America that we may not be able to achieve. It demands that we admit that we have been wrong from the beginning of our adventure ..., that we have been detrimental to the life of the ... people. The situation is one in which we must be ready to turn sharply from our present ways. In order to atone for our sins and errors ..., we should take the initiative in bringing a halt to this tragic war. "

President Obama:
"The future must not belong to those who bully women -- it must be shaped by girls who go to school, and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons." [ Carter Had CIA Armed Fundamentalist Terrorists War Against Afghan Women's Liberation & Education, OpEdNews,12/22/2010 click here
A CIA covert cruel attack on the people of Afghanistan as a pawn in the Cold War gave birth to US backed civil war, 8 yrs of Soviet military intervention,11 yrs of terrorist war lord devastation; 5 of Taliban restoration of peace, 10 yrs of US invasion/occupation war.]

Rev. Dr. King:
"I would like to suggest five concrete things that our government should do [immediately] to begin the long and difficult process of extricating ourselves from this nightmarish conflict:
Number one: End all bombing.

Number two: Declare a unilateral cease-fire in the hope that such action will create the atmosphere for negotiation.

Three: Take immediate steps to prevent other battlegrounds by curtailing our military buildup.

Four: Realistically accept the fact that the .... has substantial support  and must thereby play a role in any meaningful negotiations and any future government.

Set a date that we will remove all foreign troops

we must make what reparations we can for the damage we have done. We must provide the medical aid that is badly needed, making it available in this country, if necessary. Meanwhile -- Meanwhile, we in the churches and synagogues have a continuing task while we urge our government to disengage itself from a disgraceful commitment. We must continue to raise our voices and our lives if our nation persists in its perverse way. We must be prepared to match actions with words by seeking out every creative method of protest possible.
As we counsel young men concerning military service, we must clarify for them our nation's role and challenge them with the alternative of conscientious objection.

I wish to go on now to say something even more disturbing.

The war is but a symptom of a far deeper malady within the American spirit, and if we ignore this sobering reality...and if we ignore this sobering reality, we will find ourselves organizing "clergy and laymen concerned" committees for the next generation. They will be concerned about Guatemala -- Guatemala and Peru. They will be concerned about Thailand and Cambodia. They will be concerned about Mozambique and South Africa. We will be marching for these and a dozen other names and attending rallies without end, unless there is a significant and profound change in American life and policy.

During the past ten years, we have seen emerge a pattern of suppression which has now justified the presence of U.S. military advisors in Venezuela. This need to maintain social stability for our investments accounts for the counterrevolutionary action of American forces in Guatemala. It tells why American helicopters are being used against guerrillas in Cambodia and why American napalm and Green Beret forces have already been active against rebels in Peru.

President Barack Obama:
"In Iran, we see where the path of a violent and unaccountable ideology leads. Make no mistake: a nuclear-armed Iran is not a challenge that can be contained. It would threaten the elimination of Israel, the security of Gulf nations, and the stability of the global economy. It risks triggering a nuclear-arms race in the region, and the unraveling of the non-proliferation treaty. that is why the United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon." [Eisenhower ordered CIA Kermit Roosevelt to overthrow Iranian democracy for having nationalized its oil; had CIA train the Shah's terrifying, torturing, secret police; Reagan supported and aided Saddam Hussein's eight year bloody invasion of Iran, and continues to support its destabilization funding terror organizations. (See recent Congressional debates about MEK.] [For years US presidents threaten Iran with nuclear attack, an no one in the world says 'boo.']

President Obama:
"the Iranian government props up a dictator in Damascus and supports terrorist groups abroad."
[US CIA leads armed attack on a government not compliant with US NATO hegemony.] [Who is dictating?]
"Time and again, it has failed to take the opportunity to demonstrate that its nuclear program is peaceful
and to meet its obligations to the United Nations."
[Iran is not in violation of the UN proliferation treaty it has signed (Israel, Pakistan, India, China did not sign on and do not receive to invasion threats from US and Israeli leaders,
and Obama et al have "failed to demonstrate the its [Iran's] nuclear program is not peaceful.

Rev. Dr. King:
"we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin...we must rapidly begin the shift from a thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights, are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered.
A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies. "

President Obama:
"Through the G-20, we have partnered with emerging countries to keep the world on the path of recovery."
[The G-20, mostly white, represents invested capital and not the non-white world neo-colonized source of investor (owner) of profitable resources.]
[Obama, in photo-op, signed a $6 billion sale of WMD to India where millions of children starve to death each year.]

Martin Luther King Jr/:
"A true revolution of values will lay hand on the world order and say of war, "This way of settling differences is not just." This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into the veins of peoples normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice, and love".

President Obama:
"The American troops who have risked their lives and sacrificed their limbs for strangers half a world away."
[or risked their lives and sacrificed their limbs to mass murder people in poor defenseless nations, often as not, in their very own homes.]

Martin Luther King Jr.:
"A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.
America, the richest and most powerful nation in the world, can well lead the way in this revolution of values. There is nothing except a tragic death wish to prevent us from reordering our priorities so that the pursuit of peace will take precedence over the pursuit of war. "

President Obama:
"The United States of America will always stand up for these aspirations, for our own people, and all across the world. That was our founding purpose. That is what our history shows."  [History shows the homicidal slave trade; war on native Americans for their land; war to seize half of Mexico; savage war on Filipinos; on the Chinese during their Boxer Rebellion; the funding of, and participation in, WWI; invasions, occupations, supporting military coups throughout Latin America; heavy investment in Hitler and in Nazi rearmament; and a campaign of CIA terror when not bombing and occupation of small former colonially occupied countries throughout Asia, Middle East and Africa since WW II, always in the name of protecting American interests.]

Martin Luther King Jr.:
"This call for a worldwide fellowship that lifts neighborly concern beyond one's tribe, race, class, and nation is in reality a call for an all-embracing -- embracing and unconditional love for all mankind. When I speak of love I am not speaking of some sentimental and weak response. I am not speaking of that force which is just emotional bosh. I am speaking of that force which all of the great religions have seen as the supreme unifying principle of life. Love is somehow the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality. This Hindu-Muslim-Christian-Jewish-Buddhist belief about ultimate -- ultimate reality is beautifully summed up in the first epistle of Saint John: "Let us love one another, for love is God. And every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love." "If we love one another, God dwelleth in us and his love is perfected in us." Let us hope that this spirit will become the order of the day.
We can no longer afford to worship the god of hate or bow before the altar of retaliation. [6]

9/11? Things might not have not gotten so far if King had lived to stop the Vietnam war, prevent the CIA covert attack on Afghanistan using fundamentalist terror, and had seen Bush prosecuted long before he was told by investors to give the order to invade Iraq - see King Condemned US Wars http://kingcondemneduswars.blogspot.com/ and Prosecute US Crimes Against Humanity Now click here

President Obama:
"More broadly, the events of the last two weeks speak to the need for all of us to address honestly the tensions between the West and an Arab World moving to democracy. " [Stop already. Not fooling many with that 'Western style democracy' blur anymore, least of all, these non-white delegates before you who know well the meaning of democracy as practiced by the Colonial Power nations. If you mean 'democracy' as practiced in the ancient city of Athens, I believe one needs to hear you say so - see Tony Cartalucci, Democracy is a Form of Oppression, Land Destroyer , 29/23/2012 http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/  ;

President Obama:
"Nor do we assume that the violence of the past weeks, or the hateful speech by some individuals, represents the views of the overwhelming majority of Muslims."   [Really?
Meaning Muslims don't mind Americans killing of many of "em?]
"Burning an American flag will do nothing to educate a child." [That depends on how perceptive the child is.]

It's Not "The Amateur Film" Stupid, By James Petras, excerpt:

Libya

The Obama regime led the aerial and maritime war that devastated Libya's economy, destroyed its national integrity and allowed a plethora of foreign and domestic terrorist fundamentalist groups to seize control over vast regions of the country[7]. Washington and the UE parachuted a motley group of client ex-pats into government -- without any supporting state institutions. The Islamic fundamentalists, the clans, the gangs, the tribalists, monarchists and dozens of other local warlords who the EU and Washington funded, armed and imported to overthrow Gadhafi did much more -- they destroyed the entire fabric of organized civil society, the state and public authority. In the face of a Hobbesian chaotic world of warring fiefdoms, many people turned to their primary groups -- family, clan, religious authorities, which could offer some minimum protection in the home, street and workplace. The assault on the US consulate was only one of thousands of violent assaults against property and national, regional and local authorities[8]. The very police, military and ministries are infiltrated by competing armed religious and secular factions seeking to secure scarce oil revenues for their particular group.

The Consulate protest and the assassination of the US Ambassador and Special Forces was merely the most publicized act of murderous violence spawned by the US and EU military intervention. They thought, either out of total ignorance, arrogance or naiveté that they could arm the fundamentalists to do the dirty work of killing off Gadhafi and once their "mission was completed", they could be discarded like a used condom (or shipped off to Syria as shock troops) and could be replaced by neo-liberal technocrats who would run the country as a Western client state: turning the oil fields to EU and US oil companies. Instead Washington and the EU have alienated all sections of Libya society: the millions of beneficiaries of stable secure, secular and prosperous Gadhafi ruled Libya; the mass of armed Muslim fanatics who demand a fundamentalist state and feel their sacrifices have been pushed aside; the warlords and contrabandists of arms, who demand respect for their territorial acquisitions[9]. And above all the vast majority of all Libyans who have been impoverished by the war and who looked on with indifference or satisfaction as the armed gangs bombed the US Consulate. The violent protest over the amateur film denigrating the Prophet was clearly the pretext for a vast accumulation of popular and elite grievances which resulted from armed Western intervention.
