Rajapaksha Is Killing
The True Identity Of Sri Lanka

By Nilantha Ilangamuwa

22 January, 2010
Sri Lanka Guardian

President Mahendra Percy Rajapaksha is progressively killing the humane character and the identity of Sri Lanka. The country has been relegated to an inferior state in the world map only to be praised by him and his minions that Sri Lanka is becoming a super power country after defeating the LTTE.

If Mahinda win or not in a free and fair or rigged Presidential election, the situation will continue and the thieves he cultivated will continue to openly run the country whilst stampeding on people’s rights.

It is fair to say Mahinda Rajapaksha was a good politician once, but later he betrayed his own conscience when he got the taste of power as the President with unquestionable power wielded on him by the constitution. Only thing he has not done is change a man into a women and a woman into a man. Otherwise he has done everything make him the Romania's dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

Rajapaksha- an honest and fair minded politician has committed unbelievable crimes since he became the President and now he is trying very hard to prop up an image of him as people’s politician. He has detached himself so much from the people that he is not the leader on the people platform any more.

His arrogance was such that he shamefully attempted to take exclusive credit for the recent win-win developments in Sri Lanka over the military victory over Tamil Tigers. He is attempting to force on to people only to think about him, glorify him to praise the victory as his sole achievement. This psycho centric motivation is very similar to what Prabhakaran prevailed on the innocent Tamil civilians to call him the Son God (Sooriya Thevan), as have I have stated in my previous articles.

We cannot claim President Rajapakse is the God father of Sri Lanka. The victory in the war was the product of contributions from all the people of Sri Lanka. Special gratitude must be given to some sincere Tamil speaking people who helped the government against the LTTE. They are also victims of Rajapaksha’s racism driven political ideology.

Inward looking self-centric politicians are the ones who created the monstrous Prabhakaran in the first place. It is the collective will and the effort of all communities of Sri Lanka which ultimately brought down Prabhakaran. Prabhakaran was the product of root causes that failed Sri Lanka for not playing accommodative politics. It is expected to continue if amends not made in a wide ranging way.

In 2008, a senior political activist belonging to the UNP contacted Velupillai Prabhakaran on phone from Adele Balasinghem’s house in South West London. He revealed that he was talking some issues with Prabhakaran. In that telephone conversation Prabhakaran has said, ‘it is too late to go for power sharing or co-habitation with the Government of Sri Lanka’.

‘The situation is dictating me to achieve a separated state. The Diaspora whom is funding us are forcing for a separate state. It is too late for any cohabitation with the government now’ the source spoke to the LTTE leader said.

In 2005 people elected Rajapaksha because he addressed the issues that people wanted. But people did not dream even that he will make his family and fans to become national thieves at the expense of their sacrifices. They were tolerant enough on the skyrocketing cost of living, expecting elimination of the Tamil Tigers as the primary task. People sacrificed for the elimination of the Tamil Tigers but Rajapaksha clearly forgot their sacrifices.

Unable to feel the pulses of the people, Mahinda called the election prematurely on the sole theme of victory over the Tigers. He failed to understand the feelings of the belly aching people and he expected them to wholeheartedly support his self proclaimed victory of the LTTE.

The socio-political-economic crisis faced by Sri Lanka can only be solved by a good administrator and not by an inward looking and self promoting leader. Sri Lanka needs an able national leader who can address the ordinary people by dealing with the burgeoning issues in a dynamic way.

Unfortunately, Rajapaksha & Co’s campaign strategies have become laughable. Rajapakse’s speeches are self promotional without responding to the crisis facing the nation. Rajapaksha is now crying like a thumb sucking baby because he is unable to comprehend the strategies of the opposition.

He will be foolish if he let loose a blood letting campaign against his opponents to cling on to power. He must accept the people’s verdict in the election. If it is negative results, he should find the exit in a magnanimous way. People of Sri Lanka must ensure the most affected and vulnerable Tamil speaking people do not become fodders for the negative outcome at the election for President Rajapakse.

“Correct leadership should be based upon careful, detailed study of local conditions which can only be done by each of the Communist parties in its own country.” ( Mao- Michael Lynch –pp126) Rajapaksha must practice this even at the last few days before the election. He may claim victory in the war but would not be able to claim victories in the political front due to his over exposed political skulduggery.

Present situation in Sri Lanka is pathetic. All the dirt being hidden behind and only the historical victory against the Tamil Tiger rebel only upheld. The President remains absolutely guilty over this dangerous situation.

The way things have progressed, it will not be surprised the claim that Rajapaksha has given bribe to few countries to take some comfort in the international level is upheld. Because of Mahinda’s inward looking attitude, powerful nations have refused to maintain good relations with his regime. Even his brother, the former officer of Sri Lanka army who is the Defence Secretary is violating all the norms and the regulation of state services.

They talk of rehabilitation of war heroes disabled in the war front whilst sweeping under the carpet the mass killings of disabled rebels who had surrendered to the forces during the final days.

Sri Lanka is failing in its domestic and international policies. In domestic politics, Rajapaksha family network is destroying the true identity of Sri Lanka, and internationally the pompous regime is playing hide and seek games with its mismanaged foreign service. The hero worshiping nincompoops of ex-servicemen, retired judges and underdog journalists are running the show for our Mr President in the international level.

Let Sri Lankan Airline make a profit this year when these bandits pack their bags to hide their treasures in the safer pastures. Pirabakaran must be watching from the heaven or hell that his disciple Mahendra Percy Rajapakese is progressively carrying on with what he had left behind.

God save Sri Lanka on the 26 January 2010.
