UK Meeting To Form 'Coalition Against State Repression In lndia'

We would like to invite you to attend a meeting: 'Coalition Against State Repression in lndia' to consider what we in the UK can do about the alarming levels of state violence and repression in India that we are witnessing today. Here are the details of the meeting, explaining its purpose.

Date and venue: 15 March, Tuesday, 6-8 PM, at MayDay Rooms (88 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1DH)

Note: This is NOT a public meeting. However, do feel free to invite any individual group or organisation who, in your view, will be interested in being part of a coalition against state violence and repression in India.

Purpose of the meeting: The purpose of the meeting is to bring together various groups, academic and professional institutions, students in the UK to consider:

i) responses of concerned individuals and organisations in the UK to the extraordinary levels of state violence against dissent in any form in particular against students, indigenous peoples, dalits, Muslims, minorities, workers, farmers and social movements.

ii) forming a coalition of concerned individuals and organisations to raise awareness about the situation in India.

iii) activities that the coalition could organise in the UK against state violence and repression in India.

iv) other related issues.

Draft Agenda:

Introduce the meeting - purpose etc (5 min)
Short presentation on state repression and violence and the current political situation. (10 min) -
‘Reading Soni Sori’s Letters - a video (7 min)
Short presentation on the state of Chhattisgarh - law and order, atrocities, imprisonment (7 min);
mining, deforestation, displacement;
Contributions from the participants - discussion - comments - Consider what next (15 min);
campaign platform and details (30 min)
Closing remarks (10 min)
