Redefining The Equations Of
Middle East: US Playing Over Smart

By Farah Aziz

Responding to the need of the hour to react to the imperialist onslaught on West Asia, New Delhi observed an international conference on war, imperialism and resistance from March 12th to 14th. Various political interventionists, human rights activists and senior journalists from Middle East as well as India congregated to brainstorm on diverse issues of human rights violation and fascist ensnare by America.

Bringing about a similarity between America's Bush, Germany's Hitler, Kamal Majid, an Iraqi Kurd, and an enthusiastic political scholar, who was also one of the panelists, said that George Bush is actually the Hitler of our times. Apart from the blind fascism and a notion of primacy, George Bush like Hitler believes in approaches that are unilateral. Germany never required consent of its allies France and Czeslovakia in taking any decision of strategic importance. U.S invasion of Iraq beyond the decision of UN's Security Council is a follow up of the same path, he further elaborated.

Kamal also condemned the US allegations on Iran of possessing weapons of mass destruction, and said that it is nothing but a false propaganda by U.S. he further said that, US has been the one and the foremost to posses all means of mass destruction that is evident by its attack on Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam, and Falluja. "And even if it is true, the geographical situation of Iran which is surrounded by nuclear powers like Russia and Israel is a sufficient reason for her to be armed for self defence", said he.

However his argument of self defence was soon dissolved by Praful Bidwai, a senior Indian journalist, who said that acquiring arms can never assure self defence, it only means mass destruction by fueling the arms race, because an eye for an eye will only leave the world blind. However, Bidwai maintained that he supports the sovereign right of Iran to generate nuclear energy for civil purposes.

Kamal also condemned the groundless excuses of regime change, democratic ruling and civilization building by U.S. "The first thing they did in the name of civilization building, after invading Iraq in 2003, was that they looted the Iraqi national museum and stole precious books which are now sold for $5000 in black markets of America," blamed Kamal. In the name of democracy, US kills the dictator as well as the oppressed masses, so that the dejected nation can be easily colonized for economic benefits. American bases in Iraq, execution of Saddam Hussein, and the oil plans of U.S are a fool proof example of this set strategy of economic subjugation", he added.

He also highlighted that the medical situation of Iraq has also depleted and the annual mortality rate because of medical inadequacies has almost doubled since 2003, so, there is no question of civilization when a ravaged mass is looted and plundered on a daily basis. "And amidst chaos, the heinous policy of division is triggered right when it is the most critical. The apparent differences between the Shiites and the Sunnis and the propagation of yet another disputing notion by U.S that Kurds are neither Shia nor Sunni needs to be understood and resolved with our eyes open, since the division will to seep through entire Middle East where none will be spared", appealed kamal.

In this scenario, Kalam recommended armed struggle as the last resort and that history has seen the victory of Combodia, Lebanon, Somalia, Vietnam and Cuba. He further added that we should not hesitate in asking for help from friendly nations. America used troops from Georgia and Tajikistan for envading Iraq, and we should also feel free to seek help and fight with solidarity.

Ali Fayyad, one another of the panelists from Middle East, who talked about Iran, conferred that oil is not the only reason for US aggression to Iran. Fayyad explained that the geopolitical factors associated with Iran are of tactical importance in deciding America's taste for it. Iran is the central Islamic force growing fastly in the west Asia and thus possesses political significance beyond its geographical limit, which is an economic as well as political threat to US. A dangerous process of redirection has already been triggered drawing fundamentalist Muslim organisations to a unision against Iran by projecting Iran as a Shiite majority.

"A redefining of equations is in process. US will not let Iran to be nuclearised––It has already influenced the UN to control Iran––It can easily overrule UN if required as in the case of iraq invasion––iran will be a easy pray without nuclear arms––Muslim communities split and turning against iran––iran invaded by US––colonized––annexation of oil and power control by US," said Fayyad.

Achin Vinayak, an eminent Indian scholar and a member of India's National Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace, expressed criticism to India's stand on Iran's nuclear project in IAEA Vienna meet, October 2005, and said that India should not play privy to US and EU. "In this wake of gaining economic ties, New Delhi will not know when it is drained economically, politically, and socially by US. Politically because, her foreign policy is no longer hers, socially because there will be nobody left to make society, once the war is broken, warned Achin.

Two Palestinian movies, carrying strong political message, 'The gates are open sometimes' and 'Yasmin's song,' both on the construction of Apartheid Wall and its toll on the lives of the civilians were also screened.

The other important speakers present on the occasion were Hamid Ansari, former V.C, Aligarh Muslim University, Mushir-ul-Hasan, V.C. Jamia Millia Islamia, senior journalists Kuldeep Nayar, Editor in chief, The Hindu, N. Ram, and Ayesha Siddiqa, a political interventionist from Pakistan.
