Video: Hunger Stalks Niger Children

By AlJazeera

05 August, 2010
Aljazeera.net

About 900,000 children in the West African state of Niger are on the brink of malnutrition, according to the UN.

The UN's World Food Programme is calling for urgent help to get food aid to areas in the country that have suffered years of failed crops due to drought.

Charity organisations operating in Niger are providing food aid to many, but some say they can't help out thousands of people due to insufficient funds.

Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher reports from the village of Guidan Ider in the Niger city of Tahoua on the humanitarian crisis.
