Shoe Thrower Ahad Jan Released

By Agence India Press

Srinagar: Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Omar Abdullah says he has forgiven a police Head Constable who threw a shoe at him on Independence Day and has ordered his release.

Sources told Agence India Press that Abdul Ahad Jan held a meeting with the chief minister Omar Abdullah at his official residence in Srinagar.

The meeting was about ten to five minutes and then Chief Minister ordered his immediate release,” sources said.

They said Jan was flown to Ajas in Bandipore district in a State helicopter.

Ahad Jan who hurled a shoe at Omar at the Independence Day function in Srinagar on Sunday. It was an unexpected attack soon after Omar unfurled the national flag.

As police investigate why suspended cop Ahad Jan threw the shoe at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Independence Day, a massive campaign has been launched across social networking sites hailing him as a hero.

Jan had told the court on Monday that he was beaten and said he was unable to move his hand. But what's not clear is whether he sustained injuries in the beating right after the shoe throwing incident or was he tortured during interrogation.

An embarrassed security apparatus says the constable had been suspended, but can't seem to explain how he managed to get into the high security VIP corner and target the chief minister.

Fifteen policemen, including four officers, were suspended for the security breach.
