India – Pakistan Tension Continues To Mount After Terrorists Attack Indian Army Camp

Tension between nuclear armed South Asian neighbours India and Pakistan continues to mount after terrorists on Sunday night attacked an army camp in Baramulla in Northern Kashmir killing constable Nitin of 40th battalion of the BSF and the injuring constable Pulwinder of the same battalion. According to news reports the terrorists are likely to have escaped taking advantage of night cover.

The heavily-armed terrorists attacked a Rashtriya Rifles army camp late on Sunday night , which also houses a unit of the Border Security Force (BSF) leading to a fierce gun-battle with security forces. Terrorists fired at and lobbed grenades on the army camp.

The terrorist attacked the army camp four days after India conducted surgical strikes on terror camps across the Line of Control (LoC).

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today met the three Service chiefs in the wake of the terror attack. Army chief General Dalbir Singh, Air Force chief Marshal Arup Raha and Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba met the minister as tension continues between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control.

Meanwhile, Three persons were injured after the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy gunfire and mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir today. The firing began in Shahpur sector at around 9:45 am today. Reports said that Rakeela Bi, SPO Begum and Ghulam Hussain were injured in the shelling.

The armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy gunfire and mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir as well.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday chaired a meeting of all parliament leaders to discuss the situation at the border with India and the Kashmir issue. Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry briefed the all-party leaders’ meeting about the latest situation along the Line of Control. The meeting was convened with the agenda to give a message that the “entire nation is united when it comes to defence and integrity” of Pakistan.

There are also some efforts de-escalate the tension between the two countries. The National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan talked today morning to reduce tension between the two neighbouring nations along the Line of Control. Pakistan’s NSA Nasser Janjua and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval talked to diffuse tension between the two countries.

Tension escalated between India and Pakistan following the recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and the “surgical strikes” carried out by the Indian Army across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
