khurram-parvez

Dear Friends,

Please sign this petition for the release of Mr Khurram Parvez who is a human rights activist in Kashmir, working with two important organizations, ‘Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society’ (JKCCS) and ‘International People’s Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice in Indian-Administered Kashmir.’ He is also the chairperson of Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD), an organization working with Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP), Kashmir. Mr Khurram Parvez, who himselfwas injured in a landmine explosion a few year ago, has continued his humanitarian efforts to bring justice to the oppressed civilians and victims of State atrocities in Kashmir.

On 15 September 2016, Mr Khurram Parvez was prevented from attending the 33rd UN Human Rights Council Session in Geneva to brief UN bodies, including the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and foreign governments on the atrocities committed by Indian state forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Later on 16 September 2016, Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society stated that Khurram Parvez has been detained without formal arrest or notifications, and in violation of his rights to information, and legal counsel.

We demand his immediate release, and to show our solidarity with human rights issues, and with Mr Khurram Parvez’s work, we are signing this petition and sending it to Mr Parvez Imroz who is an advocate working closely with Mr Khurram Parvez. We are also sending it to Ms Angana Chatterji who is a convenor with ‘International People’s Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice in Indian-Administered Kashmir.’

Dear Mr Parvez Imroz,

We are signing this petition so you may please carry forward our voices in support of your efforts to free human rights activist Khurram Parvez from detention by the J&K Government under the draconian PSA Act. We know Mr Khurram Parvez, through his work with the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society to be a diligent worker for peace and human rights, and we see his incarceration as a gross violation of basic human rights in the country. Mr Imroz, please allow our voices to join yours, so as to amplify the movement to have Mr Khurram Parvez released immediately.
